Bring the family and celebrate the full moon and the fall season at Gateway Theatre’s annual celebration, Mid-Autumn Melodies. A wonderful afternoon of music, followed by arts and crafts for all ages, will take place on Sunday, September 20th, 2026, starting at 2 PM. This festive event celebrating family and togetherness is recommended for ages 6 and up, making it a great introduction to concerts and live performances for children.

A Perfect Fall Event for Families

Mid-Autumn Melodies is a relaxed concert atmosphere created with families in mind. Parents can come and go throughout the Minoru Chapel and Gateway Theatre, and don’t have to worry about keeping their children perfectly still or quiet. The afternoon starts with a captivating live concert by favourite local artists, Jason Sakaki and Tiana Jung, at the Minoru Chapel, which isn’t normally open to the public. The performance will include favourites from Disney and other musicals, including Frozen, Aladdin, Tangled, Mulan, Moana, Seussical, and more! The concert has a run time of about an hour to keep younger audience members engaged and entertained. Then, head next door to Gateway Theatre’s lobby for family-friendly arts and crafts. Don’t Forget to Try a Mooncake!

Did you know that Mid-Autumn celebrations are often called the Moon Festival or Mooncake Festival because they take place when the moon is at its brightest and roundest, according to the lunar calendar, and it is customary to give and eat mooncakes during this time. What is a mooncake, you might ask? Mooncakes are sweet pastries with intricate designs on top. They represent togetherness and unity, and are often given as gifts between friends and family.
