If you know, you know! And for those in the know, they know that Shine Bright New West is a must-do family holiday tradition. This beloved musical, magical event is back bigger and brighter for 2021. The family events are seemingly endless, some are free, some require tickets, all are fun and jam-packed with holiday spirit.

Window performances: what’s this you ask? Well the best way to answer this question is to stroll by the Anvil Centre in December. The window performances will add theatre, music, and laughter to your walk. The window performances will include local musical duo, Ed & Salve Dayo in an all-ages sing-along; Quayside voices will warm you with their pop and seasonal songs; actor Ryan Leslie Fisher will have you laughing with his Dandy show; New West Poet Laureate Elliott Slinn and storytellers from Culture Chats will bring their poetry and stories to life!

The Kerplunks (December 19 at 2pm)
The Kerplunks are Canadian children’s entertainers who high-energy, colourful performances to the stage. The Kerplunks play catchy original tunes guaranteed to get kids engaged, singing along, and joining in on the actions. Their 14-year career has seen them play at some of Canada’s finest festivals, theatres, and schools. This multi-award-winning band provides a unique live performance with a full four-piece multi-instrumental band, playing a variety of upbeat musical styles that even parents enjoy. Bring those dancing shoes, because the tunes will have everyone up on their feet bopping and grooving around.

RupLoops (December 23 at 2pm)
RupLoops is an interactive, live looping performance, using vocal percussion, rhythmic rhymes with an arsenal of eclectic instruments from around the globe. Rup Sidhu utilizes his diverse skills as a musician to create a pulsating, entertaining and engaging musical experience. His deep passion for intercultural work and intercultural sounds results in a journey of sound exploring anatomy, geography, and culture.

Seasonal Celebration with Kellie Ventriloquist and Puppets (December 29 at 2pm)
Ventriloquist and family entertainer Kellie Haines is a multitalented entertainer with a background in theatre, clowning, singing and dance. She performs at festivals, including the Vancouver and Surrey International Children’s Festivals, schools across Western Canada and as a puppeteer/singer for television. Kellie’s lively and interactive shows delight audiences of all ages.

Axé Capoeira (December 30 at 2pm)
Grupo Axé Capoeira began in Recife, Brazil in 1982. Capoeira, an indigenous word meaning ‘tall grass’, is a Brazilian martial art that combines elements of dance, acrobatics, and music. It was developed in the 1500’s by African and Indigenous slaves in Brazil as a form of self-defence from their oppressors. It is marked by its agile and tricky movements that may be executed anywhere from an upside-down position to a gravity-defying kick. It has a strong acrobatic component in some styles and is always played with music.

Ticket prices:

Afternoon shows: $20 for adults; $10 for students
Evening shows: $35 for adults; $25 for students and seniors
All safety protocols, including a vaccine card and accompanying photo ID, will be required before entering the venue.
