When you live in a city with 6 months of winter, it’s probably best to throw a festival in somewhere! Nutrien WinterShines 2018 is Saskatoon’s celebration of the best the season and our city has to offer. From fine food to fun for the whole family, this festival has something for everyone. Here’s a few of the things going on this year at:

Kiddies Ice Play Area – Located on the Farmer’s Market patio, the kiddies ice play area is your chance to bring little ones for some icy fun and play. Open Daily.
Ice Sculpture Exhibit – Feast your eyes on beautiful icy creations just outside the Farmer’s Market. Open Daily.
PotashCorp WinterShines Cameco Meewasin Skating Rink – Show up the Cameco Meewasin Skating Rink, located next to the Bessborough Hotel open daily during the festival from noon until 9pm!
IglooFest – You never know what you might find in the gigantic igloo clearly visible from the Farmer’s Market–Giant Jenga, Sock Monkey Puppets, Performances to name a few! Check daily schedule for more information.
Snow Sports Park – For just a couple of bucks, try your hand (or feet) at snowshoeing, schlockey, or a sports themed scavenger hunt! Open weekdays 5 – 8pm and weekends from noon – 8pm.
Snow Ball Throwing Challenge – The Play Sask Sports & Recreation team will be at WinterShines with a velocity speed gun to test your snowball throwing speed! Enter to win a prize for the fastest thrower on January 28th between 1 and 5pm.
Petting Zoo – Get up close and personal with goats, chicken, sheep and more! Open opening and closing weekends from 1 – 4pm.
Pony Rides – For 5 bucks, your little ones can ride a pony on opening or closing weekends between 1 and 4pm.
Sleigh Rides – Feel the fresh air on your face along Sonnenschein Way as you enjoy a FREE sleigh ride during the following times: Sat, Jan 27: 1-4PM, Sun, Jan 28: 1-4pm, Sat, Feb 3: 1-4pm, & Sun, Feb 4: 1-4pm.

Opening Day Activities – Hear a speech from the mayor, watch fire dancers, and do some SNOWGA (yoga in your snowsuit) on January 27.
Nutrien Skating Party – On January 28 between noon and 4pm, enjoy a skating party at Cameco Meewasin Skating Rink next to Bessborough with music, prizes, and Timmies hot chocolate! FREE skates available for rental.
Something on Sundays the Remai Modern – Drop by the Cameco Learning Studio at the Remai Modern from 1-4 pm on Sunday, January 28th between 1 and 4 for a Winter Wonderland themed craft FREE of charge!
Chef Soup Cook-Offs – If fine food tickles your fancy, for $10 at the door you can attend a good old-fashioned cook off where 10 local chefs cooking to impress and warm your spirits with a lovely, hearty bowl of soup! Novice cooks compete January 28th. Professional competition is January 31st from 5 – 7:30pm.
The Princess Shop’s Dress it Up Cupcake Contest – Come see and taste the cupcake creations of Saskatoon’s finest chefs at the Farmer’s Market at this special event on January 30th from 6 – 8pm. Families can purchase a punch card for $20.
Despacito Contest – On February 1st between 6 and 8pm, CFCR, the Open Door Society and Saskatoon Salsa Dance want to find out who does Despacito best! Teams from different cultural groups around Saskatoon will perform this hit song for points in costumes, choreography, and performance. Dancing welcome!
Photos With the Blades – On February 1st, get your picture taken with a Saskatoon Blade, play some shinny, or win a prize between 6 and 8pm!
Indoor Winter Carnival – Enjoy special guests Saskatoon CRUSH between 6-8pm on February 2nd at the Farmer’s Market Indoor Winter Carnival.
70’s + 80’s Dance Party – All ages are welcome at the Igloo between 6 and 8 pm on February 2nd for DJ Dance Party!
Winter Wild Life Interpretive Program – Enjoy a FREE exhibit about the winter wildlife of Saskatchewan hosted by the Saskatoon Zoo Society on February 3rd between noon and 4pm at the Saskatoon Farmer’s Market 414 Ave B.
Remai Art Caravan – Warm up and make a cool winter craft at the Remai Art Caravan between 4 – 8 PM on February 3rd inside the Farmers’ Market.
KSAMB Dance Instillations – Enjoy an interpretive dance in the Canada 150 Plaza on February 3rd with shows at 5pm and 6:45pm, or February 4th at 2pm.
Chinese New Year Celebration – The Chinese Dance School of Saskatchewan will perform some Chinese folk dances, a Zodiak show, and a Dragon Dance to celebrate the upcoming Chinese New Year. There will also be crafting demonstrations including beading, calligraphy and painting on February 3rd between 6 and 8pm.
POI with SPINJA Flowarts – This group will be at the igloo between 6:30 and 7pm on February 3rd where all ages can learn about and try POI in a FREE workshop put on by SPINJA.
