New routines, new friends, new challenges — how will your child manage? Heading off to school is an exciting time for families, but it can also feel uncertain and scary, for both kids and parents. How will your family navigate this big step? Edelweiss Preparatory School, in Calgary’s northwest, offers Preschool, Junior Kindergarten, and Kindergarten options to give children the vibrant start they need on their educational journey.
Edelweiss Preparatory School has been in the same community for over 33 years and is licensed through Alberta Children’s Services for Preschool, Junior Kindergarten, and Kindergarten programs. They have stayed true to their original mission to support and encourage a child’s lively intellect; promote independence and self-confidence; foster social competency and inspire a love of learning. Your child will enjoy a positive and caring environment where they are encouraged to try new things, think original thoughts, develop communication skills, and get along with others.
Preschool can start as young as age 3 and classes are offered twice a week. This early learning experience gives children the opportunity to develop a positive attitude towards school, connecting education with a warm and nurturing environment and exciting opportunities. This positive attitude will cast their future educational endeavours in a hopeful light as they reach important developmental milestones on the way. Children will grow as they refine their fine and gross motor skills, develop their social skills, and expand their vocabulary by way of planned and informal learning experiences. They will enjoy language and math readiness activities, along with daily gym and weekly music lessons and science experiments.
If your child is approaching Kindergarten, Edelweiss Preparatory School also offers Junior Kindergarten for 4-year-olds and Kindergarten for 5-year-olds. Kindergarteners attend school 5 days a week and Junior Kindergarteners have a choice between 2, 3, or 5 half days a week. Your children will thrive at this school, with their well-rounded curriculum and emphasis on STEAM programming. Spanish as a second language is taught, as well.
Where did the name “Edelweiss” come from? “Edelweiss” is a small white flower that grows high in the Alps and it is said that if you really love someone, you will go higher up the mountain to get the Edelweiss flower and go the “extra mile” for love. The Edelweiss Preparatory School embraces this philosophy, and goes the extra mile for the love of all children.
A new school is a transition for a child, but at Edelweiss Preparatory School, it’s engaging and fun! Your little ones will have the best start possible to take on the world!
