TELUS Spark is hosting its very first major traveling exhibit, How to Make a Monster — the Art and Technology of Animatronics from February 9 through to July 1. This amazing exhibit created by John Cox’s Creature Workshop explores how Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math (STEAM) work together to bring filmmakers’ imaginations to life. Telus Spark’s presentation marks the Canadian debut of this internationally renowned exhibit.

When you enter the exhibit, you and your family will become animatronic puppeteers, lighting technicians, and creature designers as you experience how steel, wire, nuts, pulleys and miniature motors are combined to create the bones and muscles that bring animatronic creatures to life. Be prepared to get hands-on with the exhibit — you’ll get to touch the alien guts from Pitch Black, run
Inspector Gadget into a stop sign, manoeuver Megalania (an ancient Australian mega-reptile), and even direct a dinosaur!

In addition to the exhibit itself, which is included with regular admission to Telus Spark, there will be a number of special events going on in conjunction with How to Make a Monster. Every first Thursday of the each month of the exhibit’s run, Spark will host a Monster Movie Night from 6 pm-10 pm, the first one being Pitch Black on February 7, followed by Little Shop of Horrors on March 7. Don’t miss out on the How to Make A Monster Special Event Weekends on February 16 and 17 and March 30 and 31, when you can take part in a variety of special family fun activities.
