Halloween is known for costumes, treats, and all things enchanted and spooky. That makes it the perfect time to visit the Magical Wishing Tree at Southcentre Mall! This immersive, magic-themed installation is a wonderful addition to your fall and Halloween season, and more importantly, it also supports the work of Make-A-Wish® Canada, as they bring life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses. This Halloween at Southcentre Mall brings you a magical moment with your children and vital moments of joy for other children.

Visit the Centre Court at Southcentre Mall to find the larger-than-life ‘Magical Wishing Tree’ from October 3 – 31, 2023. The exhibit will feature enchanting vignettes inspired by different kinds of magic, including a wizarding realm and a fairy garden. Explore the whimsical tree with your kids and take advantage of various backgrounds for unique and special photo opportunities. Be sure to keep an eye out for a roaming magician and marvel at his sleight of hand. During select hours from Wednesday to Sunday, volunteers from Make-A-Wish Canada will also be onsite to tell people about what the organization does and to accept donations.

“We are excited to invite Calgarians to step into the wonderful world of our Magical Wishing Tree this fall,” says Alexandra Velosa, Marketing Manager, Southcentre Mall. “Each of us can play a role in making the world a more magical place, and together with our amazing partner, Make-A-Wish Canada, we know that we can turn wishes into reality for deserving children and families through the magic of community.”

Now in its 40th year, Make-A-Wish Canada is on a quest to bring every eligible child’s wish to life. Having hope for a better day while facing challenging circumstances helps children and families persevere through lengthy hospital stays, doctor’s visits, and painful treatments. Research shows that children who have wishes granted can build the physical and emotional strength they need to fight a critical illness. Since 1983, Make-A-Wish Canada has granted more than 37,000 wishes across the country. This year, the Southern Alberta chapter of the organization is aiming to grant 165 wishes to local families.

“Every child’s wish begins with hope and is brought to life with a little bit of magic,” says Simona Lupas, Southern Alberta Chapter Director, Make-A-Wish Canada. “We are delighted to be partnering with Southcentre Mall and the Calgary community to raise much-needed funds and awareness so we can continue to grant life-changing wishes to children with critical illnesses in Southern Alberta.”

The Magical Wishing Tree will be open during Southcentre’s regular mall hours. Those interested in donating to Make-A-Wish Canada will have the opportunity to do so by visiting the organization’s website or by using tap touchless technology, which will be available onsite at the Magical Wishing Tree.

There will also be a ticketed fundraising event held after hours on October 29, 2023, where you can experience an exclusive adult-only, after-hours party at Southcentre Mall’s Magical Wishing Tree: After Dark! Enjoy a magical night filled with dazzling displays, an onsite DJ, live entertainment, games, delicious treats, and prizes up for grabs! 100% of ticket sales go to Make a Wish Canada.
