You nurture your child’s interests at home, so why not make sure they’re nurtured at school? Discovery Place Donald R. Getty Preschool, located in Southwest Edmonton, fosters curiosity through child-led learning. Weekly and monthly programming is set based on the interests of the children in the class. Programming is taught by qualified teachers and teacher’s assistants. Teachers rotate activities, games, and crafts through learning stations to keep students’ engaged and inquisitive.
Students thrive at Discovery Place Donald R. Getty Preschool through hands-on, nature-based learning that helps to develop their fine motor skills as well as their gross motor skills. Along with basic literacy skills like learning the alphabet, children also learn about important verbal and non-verbal communication skills. Students are encouraged to become educated young citizens by learning about and celebrating different cultures and ethnicities — families are even asked to share their own cultural traditions! In the past, parents and students have shared regional delicacies, traditional games and stories, and family traditions. Teachers find that helping their students embrace cultural differences helps them to engage with their community in positive ways.
Learning doesn’t just happen in the classroom, either. Through field trips to places like John Janzen Nature Center and the Edmonton Vally Zoo children are given real world learning experiences. With an open door policy, parents and caregivers are welcome anytime and the input of parents is essential to the success of Discovery Place preschool.
