With a name like Family Fun Edmonton, it should come as no surprise that we consider Family Day the most wonderful time of the year! And what great delight that Family Day falls so closely with the day of celebrating our love for others, too! It’s true that we’re still in the deep of Covid, but all is not lost — so much fun to be had safely both at home and outside. So here it is, my fellow Edmontonians, the ultimate guide to Family Day AND Family Valentine’s Day — the whole weekend — in Edmonton.
It’s the perfect time to get hooked on fishing! The Family Day long weekend is one of 2 weekends each year where Albertans can fish without a license. (all other fishing regulations still apply.) Head to your favourite lake this weekend!

From winter sports to incredible displays of art, Silver Skate hosts fantastic winter experiences this year including the Heritage Village Installation. Gaze at the night sky while listening to stories of adventure, hunting, fishing and winter survival.

Spend Family Day at the Library – virtually! The Edmonton Public Library programming is always top-notch and the line-up for Family Day 2021 is no exception. From animals to baking and story time to music making, you can pack your afternoon full of fun and learning.

Time: 1 pm to 5 pm
Experience the wonder of Elk Island’s night sky in the quiet beauty of winter during Snowshoe and Stargaze. Strap on snowshoes for a guided hike and gaze upon the countless stars in our galaxy with a friendly park interpreter. Advanced registration required.
When: Saturday, February 13, 2021
Time: 7 pm – 9 pm
Help Buddy Bear solve a puzzle as you explore St. Albert. Find the first clue on the Founder’s Walk sign. This activity covers approximately 1 km of paved trails. With such a cold weekend, this is a great option to get your family outside for a quick activity.

While this event technically wraps up before Family Day, it runs until Sunday, February 14, 2021. Head over to Borden Park and seven Alberta Avenue district community leagues to experience a winter wonderland, including ice sculptures, ice skating, public art, and more!

Safely take yourself — and your family — on a self-guided ice sculpture tour. Kicking off on Saturday, February 13, 2021, you can view these beautifully crafted sculptures at different winter patios throughout the city.

Enjoy movie night in complete with all the fixings…including real movie theatre popcorn! Pre-order popcorn, candy, and Blindman Brewing beers from Metro Cinema for pickup at the Garneau Theatre on your choice of Sunday, February 14 or Monday, February 15 from 12-6pm.

The Morinville Snowman Festival kicks off on Sunday, February 14, 2021. Visit the Morinville Fish & Game Pond to search for snowmen or take part in several at-home activities including virtual storytime and DIY sugar shack.

Twin Parks (mostly) online Winter Festival kicks off on Family Day and runs all week. Join them for online crafting, kindness bingo, an outdoors community scavenger hunt, and more!

Gather the family for a book reading to launch the new story Harriet’s Tremendous Day by NiLo. This is a great way to celebrate Black History Month, too!
