If it takes a village to raise a child, then it takes a community to teach one. That’s the core belief held by the team at LCDS Preschool and Kindergarten. LCDS is a not-for-profit, parent-cooperative preschool and independent kindergarten program , proudly located in the Hudson, Oxford, Cumberland and Skyview neighbourhoods. For over 50 years, LCDS has offered high-quality, comprehensive early education to 3, 4 and 5 year olds, in a nurturing and supportive environment.
A Strong Foundation
The program at LCDS sets itself apart from many other preschool programs in two distinct ways. First, it’s taught by a teacher with a Bachelor Degree in Elementary Education and Psychology, along with qualified teaching assistants. Second, it brings together students aged 3, 4 and 5 in a program that focuses on Kindergarten-readiness for all children. With a focus on age appropriate language, vocabulary, social, emotional, physical and intellectual development, students at LCDS will develop a strong foundation for future educational success.
Learning Through Play
LCDS is proud to follow a ‘learning through play’ philosophy in a unique combined classroom setting. Students in both preschool and kindergarten benefit from sharing a classroom space and following the same daily routines and curriculum together. A focus on kindergarten concepts ensures early school readiness for all children, while a strong focus on play nurtures their lifelong love of learning. Above all, the top goal is for each child to develop age-appropriate social, behavioral, developmental and communication skills in a fun, friendly and safe environment.

A Sense of Community
The LCDS program also includes strategic parental involvement, fun family social events, exciting in-class presentations and fabulous field trips! This is made possible thanks to small class sizes – the program limits 6 Kindergarten students per class, with a combined maximum total of 17 pupils per class.
Registration
Registrations for the Fall 2024 school year will be accepted after February 8, 2024 and will be open to all. Forms are available through the school office, or can be printed through the online registration section of the website. Educational Support registrations will be done by lottery system due to the limited number of spaces available.
