We have been lucky to have some wonderfully warm weather this January which made it easy to convince my fair-weather-loving family to come with me to check out the new Northern Lights Mini Golf Village. We’re always up for a round of mini golf, and I was excited at the idea of playing on a course made entirely from snow!

Getting there was a bit of a drive from the South side of Edmonton, but Cattail Crossing Golf & Winter Club was pretty easy to find and access off the north end of Anthony Henday Drive. We spent most of the Christmas Break being lazy and lounging at home so it was nice to spend a Sunday afternoon out of the house together enjoying the fresh air.

Although the course was packed down and very well maintained, snow mini golf is definitely not the same as playing on regular turf. I found it challenging to figure out how hard I needed to hit the ball, and all of us had our balls leave the course several times. Nevertheless, we all had fun as we made our way through each of the 18 holes scattered around an impressive life-sized whale snow sculpture. The course is thoughtfully designed and I was impressed with all the tunnels and obstacles they were able to create out of snow.

Partway through playing we were happily interrupted by a furry friend who came bounding up to say hi. If you have a well-behaved pooch, this is the perfect spot to bring them along for some off-leash fun. Although we weren’t able to bring our less-then-well-behaved dog along, as a dog owner I really appreciate the effort to include all members of the family.

Admission into the Northern Lights Minigolf Village also includes access to the outdoor skating loop and hockey rink, jam can curling, and cross country skiing trails. I was impressed by the wide range of activities, including an outdoor bar where you can quench your thirst or purchase hot dogs and marshmallows to roast over the nearby fire.
