Shumka Summer Dance Camps are unlike any other experience! This summer, your child can spend a week surrounded by Ukrainian culture, learning dance, enjoying classic camp activities, and making new friends. Whether your child is new to Ukrainian dance or already experienced, Shumka has both day and overnight camps to suit their needs!

For over 60 years, the critically acclaimed Shumka Dance Company has been performing for audiences across Canada and around the globe. Locally, they’re best known for their annual performance of The Nutcracker, which has become a Christmas tradition for many Edmonton families. These dancers and choreographers are the very same folks who will be providing your children with dance camp instruction and inspiring them to pursue their Ukrainian dancing dreams!

Shumka Day Camps

Day camps are offered for kids aged 3 and up at the Shumka Dance Centre in downtown Edmonton. These fun dance-based camps include dance instruction mixed with other themed activities and exciting outings.

Shumka Minis (Ages 3-5) | July 6-10, July 20-24, and August 24-28, 2026

Your littlest dancers can begin their Ukrainian dance journey with an introduction to Ukrainian traditions and magical folklore. Through crafts, songs, stories, games, and new dance exercises, they’ll be immersed in Ukrainian culture. At the end of the week, they’ll perform a regional dance and participate in an art showcase.

Splish, Splash, & Dance (Ages 6-8, 9-12) | July 6-10, 2026

If you are looking for a mix of dance and aquatic adventures, dive into Splish, Splash & Dance! Campers can look forward to 15 hours of top-tier dance instruction, complemented by indoor and outdoor swimming adventures. Cool down and make a splash with daily waterpark visits featuring slides, wave pools, and obstacle courses. This camp will also have a final performance for family and friends.

Folklab (Ages 6-8, 9-12) | July 20-24, 2026

Folklab is a hands-on camp where kids explore Ukrainian dance, art, and culture by focusing on a different region each day. Campers create costumes and props, learn traditional dances, and showcase their work in a performance and art showcase.

Shumka Uncharted (Ages 6-8, 9-12) | August 24-28, 2026

Dancers who love adventure and discovery will love Shumka Uncharted. Campers stay active with outdoor excursions and city adventures, including hiking, biking, and fun attractions like the Edmonton Zoo, while also receiving 15 hours of Ukrainian dance instruction.

Shumka Overnight Camps

This summer, older dancers can fully immerse themselves in dance and Ukrainian culture during Shumka’s overnight Summer Dance Camps. Enjoy one or two full weeks of professional dance training and camp activities at Camp St. Basil in Mulhurst Bay, Alberta. (45 minutes South of Edmonton on Pigeon Lake). This beautiful lakeside location features two spacious dance studios, a full dining hall, large dormitories, a sprawling field, canoes, and air conditioning for comfort.

Overnight X-Treme Junior (Ages 9-13) Senior (Ages 14+) | August 9-15 and August 16-22, 2026

Junior and Senior campers will experience up to 6 hours of intensive dance training per day with Canada’s finest teachers and choreographers. Learn more about Ukrainian culture through food and themed activities while enjoying traditional summer camp fun, including water sports, lake swims, crafts, and campfires. Put your best foot forward as you meet new friends and create some amazing memories! At the end of the week, Campers can also look forward to the famous Kolomeyka night with the Ukrainian Shumka Dancers!
