Shumka Summer Dance Camps | Family Fun Edmonton

Shumka Summer Dance Camps are unlike any other experience! For a week this summer, your child will be immersed in a Ukrainian cultural experience full of unparalleled dance instruction, traditional summer camp activities, and the opportunity to make new friends. Whether your child is just beginning their Ukrainian dance experience or they are seasoned pros looking for continued training opportunities, there is a day camp or overnight experience for them!

For over 60 years, the critically acclaimed Shumka Dance Company has been performing for audiences across Canada and around the globe. Locally, they’re best known for their annual performance of The Nutcracker which has become a Christmas tradition for many Edmonton families. These dancers and choreographers are the very same folks who will be providing your children with dance camp instruction and inspiring them to pursue their Ukrainian dancing dreams!

Shumka Day Camps

Day camps are offered for kids aged 3 and up at the Shumka Dance Centre in downtown Edmonton. These fun dance-based camps include dance instruction mixed with other themed activities and exciting outings.

Shumka Minis (Ages 3-5) | July 7-11, July 21-25, and August 4-8, 2025

Your littlest dancers can begin their Ukrainian dance journey with an introduction to Ukrainian traditions and magical folklore. Through crafts, songs, stories, games, and new dance exercises they’ll be immersed in Ukrainian culture. At the end of the week they’ll perform a regional dance and participate in an art showcase.

Wet n’ Wonky (Ages 6-8, 9-12) | July 7-11, 2025

If you are looking for a mix of rhythmic dance and aquatic adventures, dive into Wet n’ Wonky! Campers can look forward to 15 hours of top-tier dance instruction, complemented by indoor and outdoor swimming adventures. Cool down and make a splash with daily waterpark visits featuring slides, wave pools, and obstacle courses. This camp will also have a final performance for family and friends.

Shumka Bakers (Ages 6-8, 9-12) | July 21-25, 2025

Learn more about Ukrainian culture through dance and FOOD! Budding chefs will join a professional chef to create delicious traditional dishes integral to Ukrainian culture. In addition to time spent in the kitchen, campers will also enjoy 15 hours of top-tier Ukrainian dance training on the dance floor.

Carpathian Climbs (Ages 6-8, 9-12) | August 4-8, 2025

Climb, swing, and soar into extraordinary adventure at this action-packed camp! Campers will experience 15 hours of high-quality Ukrainian dance training alongside heart-pounding activities like aerial parks, circus acrobatics, trampolines, nerf battles, balloon artistry, and a flight simulator. Are you up to the challenge?

Shumka Overnight Camps

This summer older dancers can fully immerse themselves in dance and Ukrainian culture during Shumka’s overnight Summer Dance Camps. Enjoy one or two full weeks of professional dance training and camp activities at Camp St. Basil in Mulhurst Bay, Alberta. (45 minutes South of Edmonton on Pigeon Lake). This beautiful lakeside location is brand new for 2025, featuring two spacious dance studios, a full dining hall, large dormitories, a sprawling field, canoes, and air conditioning for comfort.

Overnight X-Treme Junior (Ages 10-13) Senior (Ages 14+) | August 17-23 and August 24-30

Junior and Senior campers will experience up to 6 hours of intensive dance training per day with Canada’s finest teachers and choreographers. Learn more about Ukrainian culture through food and themed activities, while enjoying traditional summer camp fun like water sports, lake swims, crafts and campfires. Put your best foot forward as you meet new friends and create some amazing memories! At the end of the week, Campers can also look forward to the famous Kolomeyka night with the Ukrainian Shumka Dancers!
