Is your child an aspiring marine biologist or perhaps just a huge fan of sea turtles? Either way, the Canadian Sea Turtle Network is offering a unique summer camp experience this year, with their Sea Turtle Environmental Camps! The Canadian Sea Turtle Network is a charitable organization consisting of scientists, commercial fishermen, and coastal community members. They work to conserve endangered sea turtles in Canadian waters and worldwide.
This summer, the Canadian Sea Turtle Network is hosting three camp sessions on these interesting creatures. Their afternoon half-day camp, designed for kids born between 2012 and 2020, will teach kids about sea turtles, expand their connection with nature, and go on outdoor adventures throughout Halifax.
Each week will focus on the basics of sea turtles in Canada, as well as have a special topic that the group will focus on. To wrap up the special week of learning, each session will conclude with a public education event at the Sea Turtle Centre, where the campers can share their newfound knowledge with the public!
Session 1: All About Leatherbacks
July 13-17
This week will focus on the leatherback, the most commonly found sea turtle in Atlantic Canada. Participants will learn all about what makes this living dinosaur unique!
Session 2: Hardshells & Sea Turtle Patrol
July 27-31
During this session, participants will learn how the Sea Turtle Network searches for and rehabilitates cold-stunned sea turtles. Campers will also participate in their sea turtle hospital event on July 31st.
Session 3: Creative Conservation
August 10-14
Sometimes, conservation requires you to get crafty! With a focus on crafts, costumes, and fashion, participants will help the Sea Turtle Network prepare for their annual Jellyfish Fashion Show!
These popular camps will sell out quickly, so visit their website to learn more and register!
