Go jump in a lake (or an ocean … because we’ve got plenty of both)! One of the perks of living in HRM is that no matter where you are, you’re not far from a beach. We’ve put together a list of popular supervised Halifax beaches for you to explore this summer.

1. Clam Harbour Beach Provincial Park
Home to the annual Clam Harbour Beach Sandcastle Competition, this long, wide sandy beach is about an hour’s drive from Downtown Halifax. Visitors can enjoy a picnic in a field on top of a bluff, or take a dip in the water while the beach is supervised on weekends during the summer.
2. Crystal Crescent Beach Provincial Park
Crystal Crescent has crystal clear water and beautiful white sandy beaches (three, to be exact). It also features long boardwalks and a great hiking trail.
3. Rainbow Haven Beach Provincial Park
This may be the most popular Halifax beach since it is tucked away in a cove and experiences less wind, as a result. On a hot summer weekend, make sure to get there early!
About 5 minutes from Downtown Halifax, Chocolate Lake is a great spot for families who want a quick summer day getaway. Lifeguards are on duty during the summer months from 11 am – 5 pm.
5. Martinique Beach Provincial Park
With a protected wildlife refuge and wooded picnic areas behind the dunes, this white-sandy beach has so much to offer explorers, beachcombers, and swimmers alike.
Remember to be safe out there! Wear your sunscreen, your floppy hats and flotation devices, and most importantly always check to see when beaches will be supervised! Happy swimming!
