Canada Day is just around the corner, and what a day it will be! It is a day to celebrate the great nation we live in, a day to come together in unity, and the unofficial kick off to summer in Saskatoon! This year, Canada celebrates 152 years as a nation, and, as usual, Saskatonians are ready to celebrate at one of the nation’s largest gatherings at Diefenbaker Park! Here’s what you can expect at Optimist Canada Day in Saskatoon this year:
Pancake Breakfast (8 – 11 am)
Start your day off right with a buffet-style pancake breakfast! There’s nothing more Canadian than some pancakes covered in some delicious Maple Syrup with a side of juicy sausages!
Official Opening Ceremonies (10 – 11am)
Grab your picnic blanket and lawn chairs and take in the official opening ceremonies of Optimist Canada Day in Saskatoon! Stand up, salute the men in red and sing ‘O Canada’ loud and proud! And enjoy a gigantic Cake Cutting to celebrate our nation’s birthday.
Sask Intercultural Association (11:30 – 1:30pm)
Pavlychenko Folklorique Ensemble (2 – 2:30pm)
Colourful, dazzling and uniquely Canadian! Saskatoon’s own Pavlychenko Folklorique Ensemble performs an exciting selection of Ukrainian dances.
Saskatoon Media Group Stage Entertainment (3:15 – 5:45pm)
It’s not Canada Day in Saskatoon without some fantastic Canadian entertainment! Here’s the lineup for this year:
3:15 – 4:15 pm Michele Dubois
4:45 – 5:45 pm Chris Henderson
6:15 – 7:00 pm Transcontinental Blues Band
Rawlco Radio Stage (7:30 – 10:30pm)
7:30 – 8:30 pm Tucker Lane
9:00 – 10:30 pm Stuck In The 80’s
Food Trucks (All day)
There will be no shortage of food at the Canada Day festivities! This year why not celebrate with a taste of Canada’s national dish from Smoke’s Poutinerie or a world of other delights sourced from on-site Food Trucks!
Children’s Activities (All day)
Amusement rides, face painting, tattoos, fire truck display, Canadian Forces display, Wyant Race Vehicles Display–the Saskatoon Optimist Canada Day celebrations have all this and more happening throughout the day.
Flea Market (All day)
What Canadian doesn’t love a great bargain? Shop dozens of vendors selling gently used items, crafted goods and more!
End the night with a BANG!! Watch as the sky lights up with the ultimate culmination of colour and sound in a fireworks display like no other brought to you by Nutrien. Stand and sing ‘O Canada’ one last time before making your way safely home!
