It’s that time of year again! Family Day is here– a chance to set aside the busy-ness of working life and spend some time with the ones we love. Lucky for Saskatonians, there is no better place to get out and enjoy some QT with our families than right here at home. Our very own City of Saskatoon, Recreation & Community Development Division has added some extra special (and FREE) activities to our list for 2020! Find out what’s happening:

The Ultimate Guide to Family Day + Break Week in Saskatoon

1. Take the crew for a Family Day Skate + Indoor Activities

The City of Saskatoon is offering a FREE opportunity for families to go ice-skating this Family Day (February 17th). The Cosmo Arena will be open from 1 – 4pm as well as the Cosmo gym which will be busy with indoor activities and Indigenous teachings.

2. Try a new sport with Family Fun February programming

Sledge hockey, rugby, ringette and more! Register for your opportunity to try your hand at these and other activities offered by the City of Saskatoon from February 18th through 20th.

3. Blast off to Mars

Kids ages 8 – 12 are invited to register with Saskatoon Public Library for a special February break mission to Mars! They’ll enjoy robot-building, programming, engineering and more.

4. Hit up a $3 Movie

Cineplex’s Saturday morning showing of ‘Playing with Fire’ is the perfect place to kick off your Family Day Weekend in Saskatoon! Grab some popcorn, cozy up with the family and don’t break the bank with Cineplex Family Favourites’ budget-friendly price of only $3!

5. Book a Tour of the Synchrotron

On Friday or Monday of your long weekend, you can book a FREE tour of the brightest light in Canada! The Canadian Light Source, located on the University of Saskatchewan campus, offers informative tours of their cutting edge facility. Just remember to phone ahead of time to prevent any disappointment!

6. View Some Celestial Objects

Head to the University of Saskatchewan Observatory on Saturday evening between 7 and 9:30pm where staff can assist you in viewing the night sky through a telescope! The Observatory is FREE.

7. Take the Family Sledding

Winter is a long season in Saskatoon. Why not make the best of it with the family at a tobogganing hill near you!?

8. Feed a chickadee

It’s a winter wonderland at Beaver Creek! That’s why they are open on weekends during the seasson. This Family Day weekend, discover the natural wonders of the beautiful Saskatchewan ecosystem, enjoy an interpretive adventure and maybe even feed a chickadee!

Why not get the family out and active this Family Day Weekend? Whether you’ve got young kids or are just a big kid yourself, Saskatoon has it’s fair share of indoor places to do just that. And don’t forget to check out the newest attraction on the Indoor Play Scene–The Backyard!

10. Get Arty with SCYAP

Drop in, bring the family, start creating–those are the rules at SCYAP (Saskatoon Community Youth Arts Programming) between 1 and 6pm on Saturdays! There are materials and helpful staff available to help you in your creative pursuit!

11. Attend a Winter Festival

Dog sleds, a fish fry, dance performances, winter games, an artisan fair and SO much more! You’ll find it all at Wanuskewin’s Kona Festival on February 15th.

12. Watch a Puppet Show

Get cozy on this February break with a puppet performance hosted by the Saskatoon Public Library that tackles the age-old question of whether or not a bear and a duck can be friends.

13. Soak up some Sunshine at the Bessborough

The Cameco Family Day Skating party invites all to the Meewasin Skating rink next to the historic Bessborough Hotel for face painting, sleigh rides, balloon animals, hot chocolate and more!

14. Yelp for help!

Saskatoon’s favourite pups will be in town Family Day weekend on a Pirate Adventure! PAW Patrol will take to the TCU stage in an unforgettable LIVE performance.

15. Eat FREE at a Family Restaurant

Skip the cooking this break week and don’t break the bank. From Monday thru Thursday, kids eat free at Fuddruckers with the purchase of an adult meal!

16. Celebrate in Martensville

Celebrate Family Day in Martensville! Attend Winter FunFest with indoor/outdoor activities, street hockey, crokicurl, inflatable fun, laser tag and more!

17. Welcome the Cat at the Broadway Theatre

He’s back! Fred Penner’s 40th anniversary Cat Came Back Tour will lift the roof at the Broadway Theatre on February 16th.
