Have you experienced the theatrical magic created by Carousel Theatre for Young People? Every year this accomplished production company mounts a series of performances just for kids. These shows are not theatre performances that are kid-friendly. These are theatre shows for kids. But don’t let that fool you into thinking there is anything kid-like about the quality of the actors, the script, the sets, or the staging. The performances birthed by Carousel Theatre for Young People rival the quality of any production you will find in Vancouver. Seriously!
We have been taking our boys to the Carousel Theatre for Young People productions for the past 5 years. We all look forward to their shows and there hasn’t been a performance we haven’t thoroughly enjoyed. The lineup for the 2022 season look to be equally wonderful.
Gruff (March 2 – 20) A timely parable about immigration, friendship, sharing, and individuality, Gruff tells the story of two goats: one wealthy with plenty to eat and one poor goat with nothing. This production is recommended for kids aged 5-10 years.
Ladies and Gentlemen, Boys and Girls (March 21 – April 23) Follow the story of nine-year-old Fiona who comes out as a boy and wants to be called Fin. He has always had a feeling – knowing something was different but not knowing what it was exactly or how to say it. This production is recommended for kids aged 7-12 years.
The Code (May 10 – 14) Moira takes pride in standing up for what she believes in. But after spearheading a protest at school that results in the spring dance being cancelled, she receives cruel messages online and at school. Luckily, her best friends Simon and Connor have her back – until Simon reveals his romantic feelings towards Moira, which she doesn’t return. This production is recommended for kids aged 12+ years.
