When the final school bell rings, kids can’t wait to kick off their summer break. But after just a few days, many start feeling bored and miss the challenges and structure of school – and especially seeing their friends.
Deer Lake School Summer Camps offer the perfect balance: fun, themed activities with a familiar daily routine while still being engaged in learning with peers. It’s a great way for kids to stay active and try something new in a relaxed, exciting environment.
Deer Lake School has been offering quality K-12 Christian education in Burnaby since 1965. During the school year, students are challenged to grow into thoughtful, compassionate leaders with strong critical thinking skills. In the summer, the school opens its doors to all kids in the community through its popular and engaging summer camps.
Camps are open to any students entering Grades 1–5 in September 2025, and run weekly from June 30 to August 15, 9:00 AM to 3:30 PM. Best of all, free before- and after-camp care is available from 8:00–9:00 AM and 3:30–5:30 PM—something most camps charge extra for.
Here’s a look at some of the exciting weekly camp themes coming this summer:
June 30 – July 4 | Culinary Creators: Mixing, Making & Tasting
Kids can be bottomless pits during the summertime; send them to a camp that teaches them to make their OWN snacks. Each day, campers will receive a new recipe to work through while learning the basics of food preparation, kitchen safety, and how ingredients work together. The best part? They get to eat their creations at the end! All recipes are nut-free, meat-fre,e and fish-free.
July 7 – 11 | Innovators In Action: Building, Coding, Music and STEAM
Experiment with circuits, learn basic coding, and innovate using STEM-based projects. Campers will participate in themed challenges that foster communication, creative thinking, and collaboration. At the end of the week, students will share what they have learned and created throughout the camp.
July 14 – 18 | Garden Explorers: Plant, Grow & Taste
If you have a budding gardener on your hands, this is the ideal camp for them! In this hands-on camp, students will dig, plant, and watch their plants grow. Young gardeners will learn about the life cycle of plants and the importance of pollinators to keep their garden healthy.
July 21 – 25 | Creative Expressions: Art, Storytelling & Eco Adventures
Creativity knows no bounds in this exciting camp. Through storytelling and art, students will express themselves and showcase their creativity using eco-friendly materials. Campers will make items such as puppets and other art to assist in their storytelling.
July 28 – August 1 | Maker Lab: Move It, Mix It, Make It!
It’s time to get messy! Enter the Maker Lab, where your little Scientist will learn everything from hydraulics to chemistry and sports science. Through hands-on projects and activities, campers will learn to question the world around them and complete fun challenges as a team.
August 5 – 8 | The Great Outdoors: Exploring Nature, Ecosystems & Survival Skills
Don’t get caught without your survival skills this summer! Daily visits to Deer Lake Park will help outdoor enthusiasts develop confidence and independence in nature through learning about wildlife, native plants, and ecosystems. Campers will also engage in thoughtful discussions about how to care for the Earth and respect the ecosystems around them.
August 11 – 15| Human Body Mysteries: Unveiling the Secrets in You
What happens inside our bodies every day? Students in this summer camp will learn how our organs and systems work together to keep us healthy and strong. Through hands-on experiments, games, and challenges, students will put their knowledge to the test!
