We live in one of the most beautiful natural surroundings with mountains, rainforest, and ocean right on our doorstep, and Earth Heads wants to make sure that children grow up connected and knowledgeable about their local ecology. In such a fast-paced digital world, connecting with nature and spending quality time outdoors contributes to a child’s development of self-regulation, curiosity and creativity. Children who feel connected to nature develop a sense of mindfulness that helps them sustain focus on difficult tasks and the confidence to take on challenges.

Earth Heads offers outdoor lessons for children that are based on experiential learning and encourage all areas of development through connecting to nature in a meaningful way. Led by Lisa, an experienced and qualified Early Childhood Educator,  children will learn about plants, animals, and habitats as they explore the many ecosystems around Vancouver. In doing so, children develop crucial skills such as confidence, self-awareness, independence, conflict resolution, communication, and insight into their environment. Earth Heads lessons include a combination of direct instruction, hands-on learning, games, songs, arts and crafts, and discussions. There are ample opportunities for students to participate in scientific observations, environmental stewardship, and exploring artifacts found in nature. With small class sizes (8 students max), each child can safely explore and learn with individualized instruction.

With more families exploring alternate versions of schooling for their children, Earth Heads has flexible classes available for all learners. With a mixed-age approach, children learn to work together and support each other at each stage of learning and development. Earth Heads offers classes for Home Learners each Thursday from 10am-2pm. Classes on Fridays are offered in two different time slots: 1:30-3:30pm or 3:45pm-5:45pm.
