If you haven’t heard of Ultimate Frisbee, it is the sport that is becoming incredibly popular due to its focus on teamwork, skill development, and sportsmanship. Ultimate Frisbee is a team sport that mixes aspects of football, basketball, and rugby. But rather than playing with a ball, the participants use a flying disc (aka Frisbee).

One of the most interesting aspects of Ultimate Frisbee is that it is a self-refereeing sport. That means the participants are fully in charge of ensuring they adhere to the rules of the game. If you’ve ever played games with kids, you might wonder how a self-refereeing game can be successful with child participants. However, you might be surprised! Because each participant is acting as a referee, everyone is responsible for calling fouls appropriately and resolving conflicts throughout the game. Even tournament games are self-refereed! For children, the skills developed by refereeing their own games are the same skills that are necessary to be successful in their academics, in peer groups, and in life in general. In learning the game of Ultimate Frisbee, participants are also learning how to stay present and alert during a game, how to listen to their teammates, how to speak calmly and respectfully when a foul needs to be called, and conflict resolution. Fair play and FUN are paramount in Elevate Ultimate Summer Camps, and the experienced coaches help kids learn the skills needed to be successful in the sport and in life.

The camps are open for players new to the sport as well as more experienced players. Every day of camp will focus on a different value related to Ultimate, such as teamwork, open communication, and fun! Coaches will split up the group by skill level when necessary (e.g. certain scrimmages or throwing drills). The camps are each a week long and run from 9 am-3 pm (Ultimate), and 9 am-4 pm (STEM x Ultimate & Skimboarding x Ultimate).

Summer Camp options include:

Elevate Ultimate Summer Camps (ages 7 and up): Elevate Ultimate focuses on building confidence and teaching values such as integrity in sport, personal accountability, and open-mindedness, through the Sport and Spirit of Ultimate Frisbee. Summer camps will focus on teaching athletes the FUNdamentals of Ultimate, including throwing and catching through small-sided games. New this year are Intermediate/Advanced camps.

STEM x Ultimate Summer Camps (ages 7-14): Elevate Ultimate has teamed up with Under the GUI Academy for an exciting Summer Camp schedule that includes Coding, Robotics, or Digital Art for half the day, and learning Ultimate Frisbee for the second half of the day. This camp is perfect for kids who love technology and being on their computers, but also want to get outdoors and experience team sports. It’s the best of both worlds!
