You’ve seen the enormous cargo ships moving in and out of the Port of Vancouver, and now it’s your turn to step beyond the gates and see a container terminal in action. If you’ve ever wondered how container shipping works or how the items you purchase in a store get in and out of Vancouver, then this is an event you won’t want to miss. Join GCT Vanterm for a one-of-a-kind, family-friendly celebration at GCT Vanterm’s 50th Anniversary Community Open House! This FREE event is your chance to get up close to the machines, people, and stories that power our city and shape global trade – all while enjoying fun activities, food, and an exciting look at the world of shipping.

🎉 What to Expect:

Get the party started with upbeat live music, performances, a welcome ceremony, and a special cake cutting. In the Kids Zone, get your sillies out in a bouncy castle, make some fun art to take home, play some fun games, and score a special temporary tattoo.

Enjoy a rare behind-the-scenes tour to explore a container terminal and see how it operates. Check out towering cranes and powerful machines — perfect for the kid (or adult) who is mesmerized by ships and machines to see how it all works. Visitors will also have a chance to get up close to heavy equipment through various equipment displays and learn how each piece of machinery works to create a successful terminal. Don’t forget to stop by the GCT Tent to learn about the impact of Global Container Terminals and its role in the economy and community. Finally, enjoy a FREE Hot Dog BBQ and snacks to wrap up an exciting day of learning and exploring.

🚌 Getting There: Shuttle & Registration Info:

To keep things running smoothly and safely, visitors are asked to register for this FREE event ahead of time so appropriate accommodations can be made. Register today to secure your space for this fun, family-oriented event. To limit cars and congestion at Global Container Terminals, attendees are required to use the shuttles provided to get to and from the event. Shuttles are conveniently offered near two parking lots so your family can carpool and then travel safely to the event. Choose from the PNE Shuttle, which picks up from the parking lot locations between N Renfrew Street and Miller Drive, and runs every 15 minutes from 9:30 am-2:15 pm. Coming from downtown Vancouver? No problem! Hop on the Canada Place Shuttle that boards at the Vancouver Convention Centre East beginning at 10:45 am and running until 2:00 pm. At the same time, enjoy the displays and activities at the Port of Vancouver’s Port Day Celebration running from 12-5 PM at Canada Place!
