Who doesn’t love a great PIE?! Whether you are interested in sweet or savoury, there are some great pie shops around Metro Vancouver to indulge your cravings.  And there’s no better day to schedule your own tour of pie shops or sample new flavours than Pi Day (March 14th , aka 3.14)

A La Mode: Sweet and Savoury pies abound at this delicious Granville Island spot! A La Mode has been in business since 1986 serving up founder Angus McKay’s original, homemade pie recipes. They even have a pie pick-up window so you can order online and pick up on your stroll around Granville Island.

Hours: 9am-6pm (7 days a week)
Location: Granville Island Public Market

Aphrodite’s Organic Pie Shop: If you’re looking for wild, organic, local and sustainable food, then look no further than this incredible cafe and market. Aphrodite’s promises the smallest ecological footprint possible by working with local farmers and producers. They have specialty pies, savoury pies and organic fruit pies, with gluten-free and dairy free options available. Eat well and feel good about supporting local!

Hours: 10am-5pm (7 days a week)
Location: 3598 West 4th, Vancouver

Gabi and Jules: Tucked along Clarke Street in Port Moody is a special bakery that opened in 2016. Featuring sweet pies that use all-natural, real ingredients and change seasonally, Gabi and Jules’ delicacies are as tasty as they are visually appealing. In-store, they sell slices of pie as well as whole pies, and their savory pies can be purchased frozen to take home and bake. Their weekly Feature Pies are not to miss– my favourite being the Key Lime Pie!

Hours: 9am-4pm (Tuesday-Sunday)
Location: 2302B Clarke Street, Port Moody

Hours: 7am-5pm (Tuesday- Friday), 8am-5pm (Saturday & Sunday)
Location: 4568 Hastings Street, Burnaby (new location!)

Peaked Pies: What makes this pie shop stand out from others is that their pies are baked Australian-style. What does that mean? Well, it begins with an individual-sized meat pie on the bottom, then creamy mashed potatoes on top, followed by mashed green peas and topped with delicious gravy. It’s a burst of flavour in your mouth! Peaked Pies also offers breakfast pies and sweet pies, so you can get your fill of all the pies for every meal of the day.

Savary Island Pies: Sometimes you just need a *really good* Chicken Pot Pie, and Savary Island’s is one of my favourites. This family-owned bakery has been around for over 30 years, so you can bet they know how to bake incredible pies. Try their sweet or savoury pies 7 days a week at one of their two locations.

Tartine Bread and Pies: Tartine’s Pies are always delicious, but it’s their apple and pumpkin pies during the Thanksgiving season that I dream about all year. This neighbourhood bakery, open since 2002 boasts a range of savoury tarts, meat pies, fruit pies and sweet pies that will have you drooling.

The Pie Hole: Rumour has it that The Pie Hole has the best tourtiere in Vancouver. This may not come as a shock to those who have been loyal customers of The Pie Hole since it opened in 2017, and have sampled the many savoury and sweet concoctions crafted by owner Jenelle Parsons. Featured on an episode of Diners, Drive-ins and Dives, Guy Fieri even referred to their Raspberry Cream Pie as “a whole other level of pie.”

Featuring ingredients sourced from local farmers and producers, their sweet and savoury pies combine the best of their French Canadian and British heritage. Want to learn their secrets to great pies?
