Opera can move the soul like nothing else. The resonant rich tones that swell and fill a performance space are unlike any other. But no one, literally no one, was born with the ability to sing opera. Opera takes years of dedicated studying and training. But operatic training doesn’t need to be spent in a boring classroom, the Vancouver Opera Summer Camps offer inspiring and interactive opportunities for kids aged 8 – 16 years to learn all about an art form that dates back to the 16th century.
The Vancouver Opera camp is a fun-filled musical and theatrical experience. Children and youth will learn about all aspects of producing an opera from writing the libretto and score to designing costumes to performing on stage. The camps include master classes as well as opportunities to create and build the set.
Vancouver Opera Camp, taught by artists Eve-Lyn De La Haye and Cassie Luftspring, runs from 9am – 3pm July 4 – 8. The organizers offer childcare from 8:30 – 9am and from 3 – 4:30pm.
Parents, and campers, will be delighted to know the opera camp culminates in a performance on Friday afternoon.
