Calling all explorers, history buffs, and adventure seekers: Britannia Mine Museum is the place to be this summer!

If you haven’t been to the Britannia Mine Museum, put it on your Summer Fun Bucket List.  This family-friendly attraction offers plenty of hands-on and immersive activities detailing the history and legacy of Britannia Mine. Prepare to be transported back in time at Britannia Mine Museum as you explore one of Canada’s most important historic mining sites. Britannia Mine Museum updates its programs, exhibits, and experiences frequently, and this summer, you can learn all about the giant machines that help keep modern mining operations running.

Machine enthusiasts – be prepared for a day you won’t forget! The giant WABCO haul truck that sits outside Britannia Mine Museum has long been a favourite with generations of kids and families and provides an epic place to stop for a family photo. This summer, Britannia Mine Museum is throwing fun into high gear by inviting kids and families to get up close with giant machines such as towering mining trucks and massive loaders. Learn how these giants help with the workload behind the scenes and learn about the skilled workers who operate, maintain, and design these big rigs to function flawlessly in the bigger picture of BC’s mining industry.

New to Britannia Mine Museum this summer for Giants at Work is the Cat® 793C Mining Truck. Start your visit by learning how engineering and workmanship come together to keep the incredible Cat® 793C Mining Truck together. This important machine is used for hauling ore and material. Climb aboard the upper platform to see the landscape from a completely different perspective. Then, head inside to hop into a simulator where you will get to see firsthand what it’s like to drive and maneuver a giant mining truck! The Mining Truck Simulator is an incredible, hands-on interactive experience you won’t find anywhere else. Because of its popularity, there is an additional fee for the Mining Truck Simulator that is not included in the general admission. This add-on can be purchased on-site. There’s plenty for kids to see and do, including hands-on, interactive activities for curious minds to try their hand at digging, engineering, and problem-solving.

The Giants at Work: Big Jobs, Bigger Machines exhibit is just one part of the fun to be had this summer. Every trip to Britannia Mine Museum is filled with excitement as visitors experience Mill No. 3. Don your hard hat for a journey into the side of a mountain and back in time to learn about mining in British Columbia. Just like miners, visitors will hop on the authentic mine train and head underground to learn about what working in a mine was like. Don’t miss the award-winning BOOM! attraction, featuring light, sound, and special effects inside the historic Mill No. 3.  Experience a multi-sensory live-action attraction with over 30 speakers, multiple screens, and special effects that bring this massive building back to life!

Your day will be jam-packed with learning and exploration as you visit the Beaty Lundin Centre, the Family Play Area, the Gold Panning Pavilion, the Mineral Gallery, and the other great exhibits around Britannia Mine Museum. There are so many areas to explore that families can easily spend an entire day at the museum.
