What’s better than sitting down to a delicious meal with your family? Sitting down to a delicious meal that your kids have made for your family! Sometimes cooking can be a bit of a learning curve, but with ATCO Blue Flame Kitchen Summer Camps, kids aged 9 – 14 can learn a vital life skill, have fun, and take pride in sharing the fruits of their labour with family and friends!

ATCO Blue Flame Kitchen summer camps are a series of hands-on cooking classes that are engaging from start to finish. Chef Instructors teach the basics of food preparation, kitchen safety, and cooking techniques. Participants create tasty dishes from scratch, enjoy them for lunch, and take the extras home at the end of the day. Every camp is sure to reveal your child’s inner chef!

~~Summer camp classes run from 9 am to 4 pm, nearly every week of the summer, and costs $450 each. You can choose a camp at either the Downtown Learning Centre or the new ATCO Park Learning Centre.~~

~~Kitchen Heroes for Ages 9 – 12~~
Campers assemble! The culinary team has been bitten by a genetically-altered bug that gives them super cooking abilities and with this great power, they have the responsibility to share their knowledge. Monday will be all about powerhouse poultry, before it’s morphin’ time on Tuesday with mighty grains. Wednesday you’ll be training to conquer dishes using citrus savviness. Thursday no green will be escaping your sight as you explore the galactic universe of green veggies and Friday you’ll be battling the shape-shifting, versatile potato in its many forms.

~~Flavours of Canada for Ages 9 – 12~~
Become an explorer of the Great White North! Discover influential cultures and cuisines that have come to shape Canada’s melting pot of flavours. Each day will be a new adventure as you cook your way through influencers from Asia, Europe, and Latin America. Campers can expect to learn about Indigenous recipes, using ingredients naturally found from our land and how to make authentic recipes such as arepas, pasta alfredo, cottage pie, and adobe pork.

~~Farm to Table for Ages 9 – 12~~
Take a tour of the award-winning farms Alberta has to offer. From the barn and pasture, campers will learn how to safely and expertly prepare poultry, beef and pork. From the field, freshly harvested vegetables will be on the menu. Take a stroll through the orchard as you prepare vibrant recipes using perfectly ripened fruit. They’ve partnered with Ag for Life and Poplar Bluff Organics to offer campers the opportunity to explore a working farm and learn to preserve root vegetables dug up with their own hands.

~~Advanced Cooking: Discovering our Roots for Ages 12 – 14~~
Experience Canada like never before! The culinary team will be taking you on a tour of all the cultures influencing Canada’s current cuisine. From the cutting board to the stove, campers will work on perfecting their kitchen skills to prepare authentic dishes originating from Asia, Europe and Latin America. Master the art of cooking while adding recipes like ratatouille, bannock, and arroz con leche to your repertoire.

~~Advanced Cooking: Mastering Ingredients for Ages 12 – 14~~
For those that have mastered the basics, it is time to delve deeper into the art of cooking. Campers will work alongside the culinary team as they prepare recipes from scratch, learning professional cutting and cooking techniques. As they work with poultry, they’ll learn how to work with various types such as eggs, chicken and turkey and cook them perfectly. They learn how to select the best vegetables and discover ways you can add greens to your diet beyond the salad. Join them for a comprehensive cooking experience.
