Birds of a feather walk together!
Since their arrival in 2012, the Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo’s penguins have become one of the cutest attractions in town. Once again this winter, you can see the penguins outside of their usual habitat, as they parade around the zoo grounds!
2022 marks the 10th year of the Calgary Zoo Penguin Walk. The king penguin colony heads out on the zoo grounds for a daily enrichment walk in the winter months and visitors get to experience the fun. This incredible program allows visitors to get an up-close look at the group of king penguins as they explore, exercise, and waddle their way through the zoo.
The daily walk starts at Penguin Plunge, loops down to the Discovery Trail Bridge, and then back up to the penguin habitat over a 15-minute period. The walks are dependent on the birds’ desire to join in (and they usually want to!) and could be cancelled if the weather drops to below -20°C, raises above 6°C, or if the conditions are too windy. If you’re in doubt, please check the Calgary Zoo’s Facebook Page or call the zoo at 403-232-9300 before you go!
