It’s been a long couple of years. Maybe you need a break. And your kids would probably love an adventure! With spring break around the corner, you know that kids can get a little wild when they are home all day and it can be challenging to maintain your regular work schedule when the kids are in holiday mode. You need a way to keep your children active with a week off school, without them turning your home into a zoo! The Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo is ready for March break, with terrific camps where kids ages 5 – 12 will get the chance to see and learn more than they would experience with a regular zoo visit!
The camps at the Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo are designed to cultivate your child’s natural curiosity and inspire them to take action to sustain wildlife in their world. Through tours of the zoo, games, crafts, activities, and interpretive programs, they will have a fun, action-packed week and learn about the impact they can have in our world. They’ll be even more excited about the animal visits! With the opportunity to meet an Animal Care Technician and one of the small ambassador animals up close in the classroom, kids will get a unique look at the zoo and its animals. The goal is for kids to experience a safe, fun, and social spring break, while also learning how the Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo works to be Canada’s leader in wildlife conservation.
Kids will be divided into three camp groups: Bongo (ages 5 – 6), Sage Grouse (ages 7-9), and Marmot (ages 10 – 12). At the zoo, kids will have the opportunity to explore the zoo alongside the talented education staff, getting to see the zoo like no regular visitor. Your little zoologist will marvel at the wonderful things they discover about the natural world with experienced education staff members and exciting themed programming.
The camp runs from 9 am to 4 pm, and if parents need to work a longer day, before and after-care is available from 8 – 9 am and 4 – 5 pm for a fee. Camp safety policies will be adapted to the public health measures in place at the time of the camp. Do you have more questions? Get them answered here.
Exploring nature and all of its wonder with the zoo’s themed programming will stir a child’s natural enthusiasm for the mysteries of the world. Make the most of your child’s love for animals and the world around them and help them develop their interests at the Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo. Kids love spending a day at the zoo — they’ll love a whole week even more!
