Family-Friendly Golf Courses in Calgary

As with everything in the summer of 2020, things are subject to change and please confirm with the venue before heading out. The inclusion of golf courses on this list is only for your information and does not mean they are open as of time of writing (May 2020).

The grass is getting greener, which means golf season is upon us! If you’re looking to introduce your kids to golf or want to get out on the links as a family, there are many Calgary-area golf courses that have family deals or special programs for young golfers. Here are just a few family-friendly courses:

McCall Lake

This City of Calgary course is known as the city’s “Home of Family Golf” because of its relatively easy Par 3 nine-hole course. This is an ideal spot for families wanting to introduce kids to the sport.

The City of Calgary public courses offer a variety of options for families and junior golfers. The annual EJ Justice Golf Tournament in August at the Lakeview course is designed specifically for kids age eight to 14 who aren’t members of a private club, but is suspended for 2020. Families can also apply for a Junior and Family Subsidy Program for programs at the Confederation Park, Shaganappi Point, and McCall Lake courses. The City also offers a number of Family Golf Nights at McCall Lake and Richmond throughout the summer, during which two paying adults can golf with two junior golfers age six to 17 for free. The Douglasdale Golf Course and Eaglequest Golf Dome hold a variety of junior golf programs to help kids hone their skills. Over the summer, kids age four to 15 can sign up for summer golf camps.

Junior membership at the Elks is an annual membership open to any child from 9 – 18 years of age as of May 1 of the registration year. Junior members do not have to be related to an adult Elks member to participate. Activities include on- and off-course lessons, in-house and interclub tournaments and social activities to which junior members may invite a friend. Many of these events are cancelled or on hold for the 2020 season.

The junior program is designed for students ages 6-18 years old. (SOLD OUT FOR 2020.) The program is open to members, as well as non-members and includes lessons and summer camps.
