With trails through natural forests, creeks to dabble in, wildlife to observe, and picnic areas, Fish Creek Provincial Park is over 13 square km of urban park escape. For the past 50 years, Calgarians of all ages have been playing outside, embracing adventure, and immersing themselves in the natural world … right on their doorstep. It’s time to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Fish Creek!

Calgarians don’t need an excuse to get out and play, and when our favourite park turns 50, we’re there! On June 7, 2025, the Friends of Fish Creek Provincial Park invite you to a FREE celebration. Head to the Bow Valley Ranch day use area from 10 AM – 3 PM and join the fun.

The day will feature a variety of wonderful outdoor activities. Join a free walking tour to learn more about Fish Creek and its history. There will also be native plant and seed giveaways, and food vendors where you can grab lunch. Kids will have fun with activities designed for them, including nature passports. Plus, the whole family will enjoy watching Bud Edgar, Joker & Trick Roper. Bud grew up here, as his father was the Head Herdsman on the Bow Valley Ranch. Don’t forget to visit all the Fish Creek partners at their booths. It’s a true community event!

This 50th anniversary event is hosted by the Friends of Fish Creek Provincial Park Society. This non-profit, volunteer group helps maintain the park and preserve its ecological integrity. They offer special programs and events throughout the year, from birdwatching to ghost tours to wellness programs. You can follow them on Facebook and Instagram to keep up with all the special offerings and news of Fish Creek.

So, what are you doing on June 7? Enjoying all that the great outdoors has to offer at Fish Creek, I hope! See you there!
