Can you hear that whistle blowing? A wave from a cheerful conductor and the clackety-clack of a train rolling by is exciting for train lovers of all ages. The romance of the rails captures the imagination of everyone from the littlest tykes to their parents and grandparents. This April, it’s all aboard for SUPERTRAIN and the perfect family day out at Canada’s biggest and best Model Train Show!

SUPERTRAIN, organized by the Calgary Model Railway Society, is Canada’s largest train show and has been for more than 30 years. And for the second year, SUPERTRAIN will be at the Olympic Oval at the University of Calgary, making it bigger and better. This venue boasts a huge show space, lots of nearby parking, and easy access from Calgary Transit.

Organized model railroading in Calgary goes back to 1934, when the first club, Calgary Model Trainmen, was started. In 1994, several model train clubs collaborated on a major Model Train Show for the public. Years later, after several outgrown venues, you can see how this train show has evolved into the two amazing days you can visit this year. Be sure to check out presentations and live demonstrations on how to get started in model railroading — members of all the clubs love to share what inspired them!

SUPERTRAIN

Over 100 exhibitors from across North America will be at SUPERTRAIN on April 25 – 26, 2026. Families will enjoy seeing the operating model railroad layouts, Lionel, LEGO, and Thomas trains, and model-building demonstrations. You can check out historical associations, railroad art and photos, hobby shops, manufacturers, and much more. The kids will love the Children’s Play Area, with large Thomas and Lego tables – all waiting to be enjoyed. Plus, Iron Horse Park will be back with their free ride-on trains and CPKC’s Little General train, a star of the Stampede Parade, will be there too!

SUPERTRAIN (Family Fun Calgary)

SUPERTRAIN is one of Calgary’s top events because it’s fun, affordable, and family-friendly. Many people went to their first SUPERTRAIN show with their parents and now attend with their own children, sharing the love of trains and family time. Adult admission is $15, kids ages 7 – 16 are $5, and children 6 and under get in for FREE. Plus, SUPERTRAIN is proud to support the Calgary Food Bank, and they welcome your non-perishable food donations.

Plan a day at SUPERTRAIN and delight your whole family, from toddlers to grandparents. Indulge your train lover’s passion with a day on the (mini) rails and family fun activities for everyone this spring!
