Need a book? Take a book! Have a book? Leave a book and share the love of reading! You may have seen little boxes and stands filled with books when you’ve been walking or biking around your neighbourhood. These Little Free Libraries are a fun initiative to easily swap books. If you have a book you don’t need or want anymore, swap it out with a new one you find in a Little Free Library. It’s a fun way to get out and about in your neighbourhood, find something new to read, and keep your own bookshelves tidy!

These little libraries are becoming increasingly common in Calgary. And anything that supports children’s literacy is something to celebrate! If you see a book you love, but you don’t have one to swap yet, you’re still welcome to take the book. Just keep in mind the spirit of Little Free Libraries and drop a book off at another time or another place. You can see a map here of the registered libraries, but keep in mind things can change quickly and not all libraries get registered. If you’re curious about building your own library, find some advice here.

Some of these libraries are so cute and creative, too! We can hardly resist peeking inside whenever we find one. Go for a stroll or grab the kids and jump on bikes. It’s the perfect afternoon adventure.
