Introduce your child to the joy of dance with Alberta Ballet Classes in Edmonton! Designed for preschool dancers, kids, and teens of all experience levels, these programs help students build ballet skills, confidence, creativity, and a lifelong love of movement!
Alberta Ballet was founded in 1966 in Edmonton by Ruth Carse and Muriel Taylor. Today, it is a holistic ecosystem: a major professional performing arts company with an integrated and internationally renowned ballet training institution. But no matter your age or level, Alberta Ballet offers the opportunity to develop your skills in a warm and positive environment with renowned, highly experienced instructors.
In Edmonton, Alberta Ballet programming is offered out of the Ruth Carse Centre for Dance. Aptly named after one of Alberta Ballet’s founders, this purpose-built facility is a hub to several recreational and professional dance companies. Dancers and their families will find inspiration in this modern space equipped with large dance studios, full change rooms, a large parent/student gathering lounge, and free parking.
Alberta Ballet is proud to offer both recreational and enrichment programs for dancers of all ages and experience levels. From preschool to teens, you will find quality dance training in an active and engaging environment. Paired with piano accompaniment in each ballet class, dancers will learn to feel the beat and gain a greater appreciation for the relationship between music and movement. With live music at the heart of every class, students will feel like they are in a professional ballet company, and teachers can stay fully engaged without needing to adjust music.
Alberta Ballet Classes
Preschool Classes (Ages 3-6)
The tiniest dancers can experience the joy of movement and music during once-weekly preschool ballet classes. Accompanied by a talented live pianist, dancers will explore creative movement and begin to understand rhythm and musicality as they develop both coordination and self-confidence. Dancers will learn together alongside a team of dedicated teachers who work hard to provide a fun and engaging class environment. Students can register for a full year of classes, or just for the Fall session.
Children’s Classes (Ages 6-11) & Teen Classes (Ages 12-17)
Recreational Classes are a fun and flexible option for young dancers with little to no experience. In these once-weekly fall sessional classes or twice-weekly full-year programs, students will build confidence, develop foundational dance skills, and experience the joy of movement with the accompaniment of a live pianist. It is the perfect opportunity to introduce the joy and benefits of dance or supplement other extracurricular activities.
The Experienced Program is a more intensive program option designed for those who are passionate about dance and want to commit to multiple ballet and dance classes each week. Children in this program will be placed in the appropriate level for their skills and attend twice-weekly ballet classes; Level 3 or higher will also attend a contemporary class each week. Teens will attend twice-weekly ballet classes plus contemporary classes regardless of their level. The Experienced Program follows the Alberta Ballet School curriculum led by a dedicated and qualified faculty.
Syllabus Ballet is an optional add-on for children and teens to complement their Enrichment Program. In this class, students will focus on material for the Cecchetti method exams. While students are not required to take the exam, it is a useful way to assess what they have learned and increase their knowledge.
Commercial Jazz Technique is available for children and teens registered for full-year programs who want to explore the style of jazz. Set to contemporary music, students will learn jazz techniques to expand their appreciation of movement and supplement their ballet experience.
Alberta Ballet is ready to welcome you, wherever you may be on your dance journey! All students enrolled in Alberta Ballet classes also receive up to 50% off tickets to Alberta Ballet performances.ย Register today to select your sessional or full-year classes.
