Did you know that Alberta was the very first province to celebrate Family Day? It began in 1990 as a golden opportunity to build ties and create lasting memories with your family. This Family Day, celebrate where it all began! The Legislative Assembly of Alberta is excited to welcome everyone to its annual Family Day festivities. Spend the day at the Alberta Legislature and Visitor Centre with free, family-friendly activities spread over two wonderful venues.

Family Day at the Ledge

Family Day activities will take place at the Alberta Legislature Building and the Queen Elizabeth II Building. Plus, new for 2026, check out activities in the Pedway, an additional activation space!

Alberta Legislature Building | 10820 – 98 Avenue

Come rain, snow, or shine, you can stay warm this Family Day, enjoying a directed open house of the majestic Legislature building, crafts and storytelling.

Pedway

Join the party in the Pedway! This NEW activated space is the place to be. Test your hula hoop skills at the Hula Hoop workshop, take part in games, get a temporary tattoo, or take a break at a colouring station. Roving entertainers will dazzle, and you might even catch a glimpse of the Legislature mascot, Rocky the Ram!

Queen Elizabeth II Building | 9820 – 107 Street NW

Enjoy twice the Family Day fun with even more activities and entertainment in the Queen Elizabeth II Building, just north of the Legislature. Here, the Main Stage will feature entertaining and interactive performances throughout the day, including magic shows, circus acts, dance and musical performances for all ages. Test your creativity at LEGO® stations, take home your very own balloon masterpiece and capture the memories in the photo booth!

Visitor Centre – Queen Elizabeth II Building | 9820 – 107 Street NW

While at the Visitor Centre, be sure to take in the immersive 4-D short film Our People, Our Province in the Pehonan Theatre, as it tells the story of Alberta’s namesake, Princess Louise Caroline Alberta. The immersive 11-minute video is entertaining for all ages, and even makes it snow inside! Take some time to explore the interactive Democracy Discovery Centre. You can sit in a replica of the Speaker’s chair, try on some ceremonial robes, and learn about democracy in action. Then, head to the Borealis Gallery and learn the history of the Legislature Building and the land it occupies with the current exhibit, Your Alberta Legislature: The Story of a Place. Don’t forget to stop by Capital Gifts for unique souvenirs, local goods, and exclusive branded items at 10% off!

Are you ready? Make your plans and mark your calendars! It’s time to celebrate family, fun, and the beautiful province where it all began. Best of all, it’s ALWAYS FREE!
