Callingwood Farmers’ Market (Sundays & Wednesdays, beginning May 5) – May means farmers’ market season is here! Head to Edmonton’s oldest and largest Sunday market, the Callingwood Farmers’ Market, to browse, shop and support your local producers and makers! Don’t forget their Wednesday market too, to pick up those mid-week must-haves!
Jurassic Forest (May 1) – Jurassic Forest opens for the season on May 1! Travel back in time to visit dinosaurs, go on a dig, play mini-golf and much more!
Free Comic Book Day (May 4) – The first Saturday in May is FREE Comic Book Day! Click the link to find out where and when you can take advantage of this cool freebie!
Fire Station Open House (May 4) – Fire station open houses are a great way to meet the people who keep your neighbourhood safe! The first one of 2019 happens on May 4. You may also want to check out Get Ready in the Park, the popular annual emergency preparedness event in Hawrelak Park on May 11!
Free Drop-In Bike Safety (May 4, 11 & 25) – Did you know the City of Edmonton offers FREE drop-in bike safety classes for kids? The first three are this month!
Edmonton Bike Swap (May 11) – Looking for a new ride? Have a bunch of old bikes cluttering the garage? Buy, sell or donate bikes at the Edmonton Bike Swap!
Stars on Ice (May 12) – See incredible artistry and athleticism on ice as top figure skaters, including local favourite Kaetlyn Osmond, hit Rogers Place for the annual Stars on Ice tour!
Mother’s Day (May 12) – Celebrate Mom with any of a number of special events – may we recommend brunch at Fort Edmonton Park or celebrate the day with animal mothers at the Edmonton Valley Zoo! See all the great Mother’s Day options HERE.
UFest Edmonton Ukrainian Festival (May 24-25) – Come for the perogies, stay for all the fun! Everyone is invited to embrace Ukrainian culture at this two day event!
Rainmaker Rodeo (May 24-26) – Yeehaw! The Rainmaker Rodeo hits St. Albert with three days of non-stop fun, including a parade, midway, music, and of course, rodeo action.
Butterfly Day (May 26) – The U of A Botanic Garden opens for the season on May 1. One of their most popular events is Butterfly Day! Wear a costume, visit all the beautiful butterflies in the Tropical Showhouse and make butterfly crafts!
International Children’s Festival of the Arts (May 28 – June 2) – It is, hands down, the best week to be a kid in the capital region! Enjoy shows, performers, workshops and so much FUN at the annual International Children’s Festival of the Arts in St. Albert.
MythBusters (all month) – Find answers to your most burning everyday science questions in this unique, interactive and just plain fun new feature exhibit at the TELUS World of Science Edmonton!
The Vikings Are Coming (all month) – The first-ever feature exhibit for the new Royal Alberta Museum is open! Vikings: Beyond the Legend runs through October 20!

May marks the opening of the 35th season of Edmonton’s largest and oldest Sunday farmers’ market, the Callingwood Farmers’ Market! The first Sunday Market of the season runs Sunday, May 5, 2019 from 10 am to 3 pm! Be there to enjoy free cake, live music, bouncy castles and a petting zoo! Return on Wednesday, May 8 from 12 pm to 5 pm for the first Wednesday market of the season, with a special visit from some popular pups!
The Sunday Callingwood Farmers’ Market features more than 120 vendors offering fresh, locally grown produce, delicious food, unique arts and crafts, exclusive handmade products and much more. The Wednesday market features 30 to 40 tables offering more of the same! The market is conveniently located in the covered courtyard at The Marketplace at Callingwood, 6655 – 178 Street, where there is plenty of free parking and convenient access to transit!
