Whether you are a well-seasoned actor, or have never set foot on stage, there is a class for you or your child to build confidence.

All classes with the City of St. Albert’s performing arts team offer a warm and welcoming environment where participants are encouraged to freely express themselves through music, improv, public speaking and movement. Participants will enjoy the benefits of learning from the theatre experts while meeting like-minded classmates who share their passion and interests.

City of St. Albert Performing Arts Classes

Let’s StArt | 0 – 24 months

The ultimate “play”group, this 10-week musical-theatre based program lets babies, toddlers and parents connect with each other in a fun and creative environment. Go on a new 60-minute adventure each week through music, creative play, puppetry, dance and more! Plus, parents are welcome to stay after class to connect with each other and build their parenting village.

Broadway Babies | 4 – 5 years

The perfect introduction to musical theatre, this class is full of music, movement, imaginative games and creative play! Your child will form new friendships as they develop their self-confidence and cognitive development.

School of Broadway | 8- 13 years

School of Broadway has been developed for students in homeschooling or alternative education programs. Incorporate the performing arts into their curriculum through this fun and educational program filled with song, movement and acting. Students will learn about the world of theatre while building confidence, communication, creativity and cognitive development.

Broadway or Bust! | 6 – 8 years
Broadway or Bust! | 9 – 11 years
Musical Theatre | 12 – 17 years

Come ready to hit the stage Broadway style! No previous experience is required for these classes focused on the three aspects of musical theatre – singing, acting and movement. Students will build their Broadway repertoire and gain greater confidence that will have a positive effect on other aspects of their lives.

City of St. Albert Performing Arts Classes

Musical Theatre Intensive Jr. | 9 – 12 years
Musical Theatre Intensive Sr. | 13+ years

Seasoned young actors and actresses will be challenged using a master-class model (musical theatre solos, monologues etc.). Students will expand their theatre education, explore their individual potential, and develop the foundational skills needed to seek out roles in mainstage productions.

Previous experience is required and auditions will be held in order to gain acceptance into these courses.

Acting & Improv | 9 – 11 years
Acting & Improv | 12 – 17 years

In this class young people will be able to develop their acting skills through theatre sports, monologue work and scene study/play analysis. Lessons will be focused primarily on learning the process, with a showcase of the students’ work at the end of the term.

Speak Up! | 9 – 13 years

This five-week program has been developed to help kids get out from behind the screens and develop public speaking skills. Local broadcast journalist Carmen Liebel is the mastermind behind this fun and interactive class that will help youth feel less nervous in front of a crowd and give them the confidence to speak up and share their amazing ideas! Through presentations and speeches, students will gain the right tools to feel relaxed delivering their messages and be empowered to communicate more effectively.

Adult Musical Theatre | 18+ years

The kids shouldn’t get to have all the fun! Adult Musical Theatre classes are open to anyone who has an interest in theatre – no previous experience required! Participants will learn to express themselves through singing, acting and movement while building an impressive Broadway repertoire. Come belt out your favourite tunes on stage and forget the stress of the day.

Adult Acting & Improv | 18+ years

Explore your creative side while developing acting skills and confidence in your public speaking. During this course, participants can look forward to everything from theatre sports and monologue work and scene/play analysis in a fun and encouraging environment.
