It’s time to sing, time to dance, and time to play! Summer is an excellent opportunity to explore new interests or expand existing passions. The Maritime Conservatory of Performing Arts offers arts-based summer camps to keep kids immersed in terrific activities and engaged in summer fun.
The Maritime Conservatory of Performing Arts provides a universe of music and dance under one roof. As they have been a part of the Halifax arts community for over 130 years, they bring a legacy of excellence with accredited programs and a highly qualified and dedicated faculty. Their studios are steeped in Maritime history, offering a meaningful opportunity for artistic and creative growth.
Summer Camps
Summer camps at the Maritime Conservatory are offered through the School of Music and the School of Dance for children and youth ages 5 to 18 years. With a commitment to provide a safe and welcoming environment for everyone, your kids will thrive here. What summer camp will they choose?
Sing, Dance and Play! (Ages 5 – 12)
With alternating dance and music classes, kids will explore rhythm and musicality and be inspired by creative movement in various dance classes. This camp will also include arts and crafts and a short final performance at the end of the week.
Children’s Dance Camp (ages 5 – 12)
Make new friends and have fun learning new dances at the MCPA summer dance camp. Students will be grouped according to age and will have an opportunity to participate in ballet, jazz, modern and more. The camp will also include arts and crafts, outdoor play, and workshops on various topics, from creative composition to music. Each week of camp will culminate in an exciting demonstration for family and friends.
String Day Camp for Kids (ages 6 – 14)
Show some creativity, have lots of fun, and make new friends — this camp for string instrument players is open to all levels! Each day will include music classes, as well as arts and crafts and outside time to enjoy the summer sunshine. At the end of the week, kids will showcase their skills with a performance for family and friends.
Brass Camp (ages 8 – 18)
Calling all brass players! This camp is an introduction to brass instrumental performance for students with at least one year of experience on their preferred instrument – trumpet/cornet, horn, baritone/euphonium, trombone, tuba/brass. Participants will receive individual and group instruction, leading to the end-of-the-week performance.
Junior Dance Intensive (ages 10 – 13)
This Junior Summer Intensive program is for students who want to improve their technical and performance skills. Dancers will develop their artistic skills by participating in ballet, jazz, modern, character dance, and composition classes tailored to elevate technique and inspire creativity. A minimum of RAD grades 3 – 5 or equivalent training is required.
Summer Dance Intensive (ages 12+)
This Summer Intensive program is for students with at least two years of experience who want to advance their technical and performance skills. Study ballet, pointe, repertoire, conditioning, modern, and jazz with expert guest teachers. Levels are divided according to experience.
Musical Theatre Intensive (ages 14 – 17 and 18+)
Get ready to elevate your skills with this week-long intensive musical theatre and vocal camp. New York City-trained musical theatre professionals, Katie Cochrane and Patrick Maubert, will offer professional instruction to expand students’ repertoire and enhance their audition skills.
Summer Theory Intensive Camps
The MCPA offers their popular summer music theory intensive camps for students at varying levels. Each camp will span 2 weeks and include 3 hours of instruction a day. These camps will prepare students for the History 9, Harmony 9, and/or Theory 6 and 8 RCM August theory examinations.
