If you’ve got kids ready to try skateboarding, or if they can ride, but want to learn some tricks, Saskatoon has a skateboarding camp! Right to Skate summer camps help any young skater improve their technique. Right to Skate Summer Camps are a perfect fit for all kids, including those just beginning and those who feel more comfortable in the sport. Campers will learn to skateboard while building their tricks and moves. Your kids will love showing you all their new talents. Skateboarding through Saskatoon will be the highlight of summer. Camps will be a great way to find new friends who crave action and movement on wheels. Your little ones will come out of the camps with new skills and more confidence to succeed.
Camps offered are for beginner campers and intermediate-advanced campers. Beginner camps will help campers master first push, turns, and stops, and by the end of camp, they will be nailing their first tricks. Intermediate and advanced camps are designed for experienced young skaters looking to develop more advanced skills at the skatepark. Your kids will be showing off their new moves all summer long. Not only will kids love finding new friends and learning to skateboard, but the sport will give them the joy of physical activity, foster self-confidence, teach them to keep trying, and improve their mental health.
The Details
Register your kids for two days of fun where they will learn more about the sport and gain new skills. Camps will be two back-to-back mornings with nutritious snacks and drinks included. The summer camps are for all ages but they recommend for ages 6 and up. Skateboard and helmet rentals are included. Camps will be at Optimist Park or Lions Skatepark. Before and after care is available for all camps from 8:45 AM to 12:15 PM for an additional $20.
Right to Skate
This Saskatoon nonprofit has been making skateboarding accessible to youth and marginalized communities across Saskatchewan for 12 years. If your child struggles with team sports, Right to Skate provides a replacement that allows kids to feel accepted and confident. Because of the paid lessons and camps, as well as donations, they are able to donate skateboards and gear to those that need help.
Skateboarding is for Everyone
The Elijah Kerslake Skateboard Scholarship breaks down barriers to accessing skateboarding. It provides skateboard gear and access to programming for youth from low-income families, Indigenous youth, Newcomers (immigrant or refugee), 2SLGBTQ skaters, and people facing other barriers. You can find out more here. Right to Skate believes that skateboarding is a powerful tool of positivity. Skateboarding helps to foster self-confidence, persistence, and creativity.
Beginner Skateboard Camps
The beginner Skateboard camp helps to form your foundation. You will learn foot-positioning, pushing, turning and stopping, as well as how to ride small ramps and a few tricks. This camp will help you find your confidence on your skateboard. Recommended for ages 6 plus.
