{Petrofka Orchard will be closed for the summer of 2022 but will be back in 2023.}
We recently discovered our new favourite place. Petrofka Orchard is a 46-acre fruit farm orchard and is located right on the North Saskatchewan River. It was a hit for all of us. My sister came with us for our adventure and loved it just as much as we did. We had a perfect family-friendly walk. It almost felt like a hidden gem, but it’s not really hidden. I’ve seen it in passing, but this is the first time we made it our destination. I’m already planning our next trip there. Petrofka Orchard was amazing. The entire trip made us happy. It’s about 40 minutes out of Saskatoon and worth the drive! Here are some of the things we loved the most about it.
Walking Trails
The first thing we did was go on the walking trails. My four-year-old needed to get some of his energy out. Next time we will probably bring a picnic (or buy some lunch there) to eat by the river. I’m getting ahead of myself though.
In my opinion, the trails are perfect for the little ones. The longest trail is a half-hour walk, and it takes about 15 minutes to get to the beach from the parking lot. We spent quite a long time at the beach, but we could spend a lot of time just discovering all the different trails as well.
They had spots to sit along the way, and amazing signs to let us know where we were.
We tried to get him to look crabby under the sign, but he was having too much fun.
As always, the view of the river is gorgeous. We loved it. My son did end up with VERY muddy shoes, but it was worth it for his squeals of delight. He could have spent all day just in this area. They also have chairs and picnic benches overlooking the river. It’s truly the most beautiful spot to stop for a break.
We finally convinced my kiddo we should head back with the mention of ice cream at the cafe. We took our time coming back (everything takes time with my imaginative five-year-old.) The cafe/store is full of locally made items. We got ice cream and drinks, but next time we will definitely go for lunch.
My sister and my son both had delicious sundays. I had an ice cream donut. And yes, it was as delightful as it sounds. (Although, I definitely could have shared it with my kid.) The seating to eat is outside. They have lots of places to sit, and all the spots allow you to appreciate the beautiful orchards surrounding the area.
Every bit of our visit was amazing. Including all of the kind people we met. Everybody stopped and answered my son’s questions. They let him take his own photos of the dogs (I don’t have those ones downloaded, but I have a budding photographer!) Honestly, if you try a new place this summer, please consider this spot. We didn’t really know what to expect on our adventure, but we found every single part to be nothing short of amazing.
