Science, Technology, and Engineering and Math (STEM) are at your fingertips with UBC Geering Up Engineering Outreach programs this Fall! As part of the UBC Faculty of Applied Science, Geering Up Engineering Outreach provides youth with a multitude of STEM learning experiences outside of the classroom in a fun, welcoming environment. Youth who are passionate about STEM and those looking to explore the fields further are encouraged to participate in UBC Geering Up’s weekly Saturday clubs!

Beginning September 20th, children and youth from grades 1-12 are invited to join Saturday clubs in person in Richmond and at UBC Vancouver. Classes run from 10 am to 12:30 pm, and students are grouped according to age. In each lesson, students will engage in hands-on learning that explores a variety of themes and interests. For Fall, Elementary students can register for exciting STEM themes such as: Geometry Wizards, Budding Botanists, MiniMed (which is all about biomechanical engineering–cool!) or Clue Hunters. High school students can participate in themed sessions such as Architecture and Design or Game Design. Each themed course is inquiry-based, meaning your child will have ample opportunity to explore their passions and learn from dedicated undergrad staff and educators.

As a proud member of the Actua network, Canada’s largest STEM organization, UBC Geering Up builds a solid foundation in STEM for young people who are interested in the subjects but might not have access to extra learning opportunities to further their skills and knowledge. Geering Up is passionate about breaking barriers and providing opportunities to explore STEM pathways for every child in BC, regardless of family background, gender, or socio-economic status. Since 1995, Geering Up has been a pillar of the UBC community in leading outreach programs. In addition to weekly programs, UBC’s Geering Up Engineering Outreach also offers Indigenous Outreach to rural and remote areas, professional development opportunities for teachers, in-school workshops, and summer camps for youth. Be a part of their 30th anniversary celebrations and dive into exciting learning opportunities.
