September is a month of change. The summer temperatures dwindle, the amount of sunlight lessens, school-aged children return to the classroom, and lengthy holidays come to an end. But it isn’t all bad! September brings us fall with its warm, frothy drinks, pumpkin-flavoured everything, and the farm bounties of apples and corn. Metro Vancouver also offers up a ton of family-fun events throughout September. Here are the top September picks from Family Fun Vancouver!

Chilliwack Sunflower Festival (on until September 5) – there’s just enough time at the start of September to pop out to Chilliwack and take in the beauty of sky-high sunflowers! Running daily until September 5, the open-field experience will introduce you to a stunning number of sunflower varieties.

Outdoor Movies in Richmond (various dates in September) – grab the kids and load up the car with snacks! It’s movie time. Outdoor movies are playing at Lansdowne Centre in Richmond through September.

TAIWANfest (Sept 3 – 5) is a FREE family festival that celebrates the storied cultures of Asia. For 2022, the festival is once again a combination of online and in-person events.

Vancouver Fringe Festival (Sept 8 – 18) – Bigger, bolder, and better than ever before, this year’s Vancouver Fringe Festival will be parading its fine wares all across Granville Island and beyond – from rollicking new theatre to belly-bursting comedy, awe-inspiring dance to lip-splitting spoken word and more.

Good Times Cruise-In (Sept 10) returns to downtown Aldergrove. Thousands of cars – new, old, restored, hot-rodded – close off the streets. Have a wander and be sure to keep your hands to yourself!

RiverFest (Sept 20 – 25) is a FREE family-friendly festival, and a great way to learn more about the mighty Fraser River. Head to the Fraser River Discovery Centre in New Westminster. This year the festival is both in-person and online and runs for an entire week instead of just one day.

Scarecrow Stroll (September 24 – October 31) is a fun fall festival at Art Knapps in Surrey. Explore the expansive 10+ acre nursery anytime between Sept 24 and Halloween to enjoy a casual, outdoor stroll amongst 50+ scarecrows and fall photo opportunities. You can purchase a scarecrow kit to take home and build for your own garden.
