5 Ways to Treat Your Halifax-Dartmouth Dad this Father’s Day

Halifax Hipster Dad

Presented by Mark’s

Hey Halifax! Not sure what to do for Dad on Father’s Day, Sunday June 18th? Here are 5 great ideas for giving dear old Dad a treat on his special day – plus some gift ideas from our friends at Mark’s.

1. Road Trip down Memory Lane

If your Dad loves wheels or nostalgia – or both! – take a short road trip to Heritage Village, on the Eastern Shore. The 2017 Antique Car Show happens on Father’s Day, June 18th, from 10:00 am – 3:00 pm (rain date: June 25th).

Is he a classic kind of guy? Then you should buy him The Levi’s® Commuter™ Trucker Jacket. It’s water and dirt repellant…and  features a hood under the collar.

2. More Vroom Vroom

If cars are Dad’s thing, then take him to the Lightning MacQueen’s Road Trip, Turbo Charged by Canadian Tire. We can’t think of a better bonding experience for Dad and young kids.

You want real cars? No problem! Head to Scotia Speedworld on Friday night, for the Scotia Speedworld CARSTAR Weekly Racing Series. The Friday before Father’s Day is Hydraulics night.

After the race, present Dad with a special father’s day gift from Mark’s. How about a fresh new pair of Sketchers? These stylish sneakers have memory foam insoles for comfort and style!

3. Father’s Day Brunch

Celebrate Father’s Day with a globally-inspired brunch at the Westin Nova Scotia. Enjoy a taste of Japan with the in-house sushi chef. Savour the flavours of India with butter chicken. Celebrate the East Coast with the Westin’s delicious shrimp and scallop stir-fry. Price is $48.30, including gratuity and parking. Seating Times: 11:30 am, 12:00 pm, 2:00 pm, and 2:30 pm. Call call 902-496-7985. Feel free to tell them Family Fun Halifax sent you (we are big fans of the Westin brunch).

Just outside of town, take the whole family to Hatfield Farm, in Hammonds Plains for a Father’s Day Lunch with a classic Hip O’ Beef served with garlic mashed potatoes, Grandma Hatfield’s veggie medley, cole slaw & fresh dinner Rolls, plus all-you-can-eat pizza and pop for the kids! You must reserve in advance. Call  (902) 835-5676 to book a spot.

After that meal, Dad’s going to need to loosen his belt. The  Levi’s reversible belt from Mark’s makes a beautiful long-lasting Father’s Day gift.  With a versatile, simple design it pairs perfectly with every outfit, since it’s both brown and black.

4. Beer!

There are plenty of cool places to grab a brew in Halifax, like the award-winning Garrison Brewery next to the Halifax Seaport Market. The Stubborn Goat also pays tribute to Father’s this weekend with some great deals for Dad.

If your Dad likes patio life, then consider suiting him out in a totally awesome retro-style Star Wars shirt and nice pair of summer shorts. The Matrix knit Active Shorts have an easy-on elastic waist for active lifestyles… or afternoons on deck!

Pay tribute the the “Father” of Nova Scotia beer at the Red Stag! This pub inside the old Alexander Keith’s brewery is another downtown hot spot for families who like a pint. The Red Stag Tavern is open on Father’s Day. We checked, and it seems to have a pretty decent kids menu!

5. Hike

If your Dad loves the great outdoors, head to the Hike Nova Scotia website to find a trail near you. Or, pick up a copy of 25 Outdoor Adventures in Halifax: 25 exciting & little-known adventures…, a new guide book written by local travel-writers, Dale Dunlop and Ryan Barry. This would make a superb Father’s Day  gift. If you’re in the Tantallon area, why not start at the Bike n’ Bean, and take a short hike along The St. Margaret’s Bay Trail, one of our favourites.
