The Christmas season in Calgary is filled with parties, holiday events, and general merriment. But there’s nothing quite like dressing up and taking the kids out for a special family-friendly production! While many shows from Alberta Theatre Projects are geared towards an older audience, they also present a family-friendly, heartwarming holiday show over the Christmas season. This year, from November 25, 2025, through January 4, 2026, your family can enjoy the delightful The Wizard of Oz.

Are you ready to follow the Yellow Brick Road? The Alberta Theatre Projects’ musical stage adaptation of The Wizard of Oz, by L. Frank Baum will take you over the rainbow this holiday!

This classic story is filled with memorable lines, songs, and themes. A tornado pulls young Dorothy out of her home and sends her to the magical land of Oz. Here she meets a Scarecrow, a Tin Man, and a Cowardly Lion, and they all set off on an adventure down the Yellow Brick Road to try and find the mysterious Wizard of Oz. He’s the only one who can help Dorothey get back home to Kansas, but the Wicked Witch of the West has villainous plans.

With themes of friendship, bravery and believing in yourself, The Wizard of Oz offers a night of family fun and a springboard for wonderful discussions. This show is appropriate for all ages and is suggested for munchkins ages five and up.
