Be transported to another world with shows at Calgary’s Arts Commons! Here you can listen to the classical sounds of the symphony, enjoy a children’s show, or watch a drama unfold. Arts Commons Presents, the programming arm of Arts Commons, also fascinates us through captivating lectures and special events, such as National Geographic Live, allowing us to travel the globe from our seats in Calgary. These presentations are the perfect events for families with school-age children, giving them glimpses into our world in educational and engaging ways.

This March, discover the Tyrannosaurus rex, the most famous prehistoric carnivore of all time! National Geographic Live is bringing Lindsay Zanno: T. rex Rises to Art Commons. Dr. Lindsay Zanno is a paleontologist whose work has helped us picture the world of the dinosaurs and how a cataclysmic climate crisis — stagnant oceans, volcanic eruptions, and flooding continents — wiped out the top predators. She discusses how Cretaceous climate change paved the way for the evolution of Tyrannosaurus rex.

How did T. rex become the most iconic predator of North America? Dr. Zanno is one of the world’s leading experts on the evolution of Cretaceous dinosaurs and she spends months at a time searching the badlands of western North America for clues. Of course, she has made some amazing discoveries along the way, including previously unknown species. Have you heard about one of the continent’s tiniest tyrannosaurus, Moros, which weighed only 170 pounds and stood barely five feet tall? On the other end of the scale is Siats, one of the largest American megapredators, at over 9,000 pounds.
