You know that thing your kids do, when you’re out in public trying to walk like human beings? The thing where they walk on railings, jump on curbs, climb over culverts, and swing on low tree branches?
Well, you’ve probably heard by now that they’re just engaging in a little parkour, while you go on a (relatively) boring walk! Parkour is a fun and active sport, easily adapted to any level of skill and ability, and ideal in an urban setting. It involves running, jumping, swinging, and climbing, while moving quickly through an area. In short, it’s everything kids naturally love to do.
As with any sport or activity, you need lessons and practice to improve. Breathe Parkour offers both. Kids can come after school and burn all their energy in a safe training environment with proper supervision. Their space has been created to mimic the outside world, while still upholding a safe learning process.
If your child has never done Parkour lessons before, Breathe Parkour offers an introductory package. Pick up an Intro Pack, which includes 4 classes and everything else they would need to get started in Parkour, for only $79.99! Each class is any hour of Parkour instruction and includes same-day open gym. So, after training for an hour with a trainer and learning some new skills, then they can hang out afterwards to practice and enjoy the space. (They will also get a welcome package that includes some swag, information about parkour and the local community, along with some other little gifts.)
Has your child already done Parkour and know they love it? Breathe Parkour also offers regular lessons that follow a curriculum. Classes are available in three age stages: 6 – 10, 11 – 15, and 16+ (a class for you, maybe?!).
The curriculum is broken down into eight levels. Ages 6 – 10 start working through Levels 1 & 2, with rolls, jumps, falls, and vaults. Ages 11+ will start learning skills from Levels 1, 2, and 3. (It usually takes around ten or more classes to level up, but every month, kids have the opportunity to join one of the grading days, so they can progress at whatever rate is right for them.)
There are so many options at Breathe Parkour, with two locations in Calgary, and a variety of class times to choose from. Memberships and drop-in rates are also available.
So, the next time you go for a walk and your child is dashing around and climbing on everything is sight, tell yourself they’re just so committed to their sport that they can’t stop practicing!
