Calgary Yacht Club Summer Camps: Get Ready for an Adventure on the Water

The sun on your face and the wind in your hair, raising the sails and taking the helm — sailing is a brilliant way to enjoy summer! Plus, it’s an engaging, exciting way for kids to stay active when they’re out of school. Take a look at Calgary Yacht Club summer camps for a summer your kids will never forget!

The Calgary Yacht Club has been boating on Chestermere Lake since 1933, with easy access to Calgary. This not-for-profit organization is dedicated to developing, promoting, and enjoying the sport of sailing. They welcome both dedicated sailors and those who are brand-new to the sport.

Calgary Yacht Club runs summer day camps throughout July and August, with sailing and water sports camps for all levels from ages 5 – 17 years. The sailing camps follow the CANSail curriculum, Sail Canada’s learn-to-sail program. (The Water Sports camp does not follow CANSail.) Beginners learn sailing basics, from wind directions to nautical terminology and more advanced young sailors start anticipating the wind and sailing faster and further. Kids may not complete a CANSail level in one week, but their progress can be tracked. Calgary Yacht Club staff is accredited by Sail Canada, bringing skilled, safe, and fun teaching to your kids.

Are you wondering what a day at camp looks like? Camps run from 9 AM to 4 PM and before and after care is available starting at 8 AM and ending at 5 PM for a fee. Make sure to dress your child in clothes to wear in the water, plus, pack dry clothes, just in case. The Club provides lifejackets that the kids must always wear on the water. Kids need to have closed-toed shoes, and they’ll need sunscreen and packed lunches. Sending bug spray and a hat is a good idea, too, and leave the electronics and screens at home!
