Summer holidays can be a tricky time: we love the time off, but the kids start climbing the walls when they don’t have enough to do. If your kids get a little wild during the summer, the Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo totally understands! With one of Calgary’s most popular camps, the zoo has already SOLD OUT camps ages 4 – 9. There are still spots in camps for ages 10 – 14 but ACT FAST! Kids can enjoy an awesome summer experience at the zoo with summer camps that engage them on every level and inspire a love of nature. Let the Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo give your kids a week of joy and encourage them in their quest to learn about their world.

Through age-appropriate crafts, games, activities, and interpretive programs, campers will learn about the zoo’s amazing collection of animals and the habitats in which they live. And they will love the animal visits! Campers will get the opportunity to meet an Animal Care Technician and one of the small ambassador animals up close in the classroom. To keep things interesting (and because there’s so much to learn and discover in that big, beautiful world out there), the zoo changes up the camp themes, activities, and experiences each year. Once you’ve done one summer camp here . . . you certainly haven’t done them all!

Summer Camps

Summer Zoo Camps (ages 5 – 14) will explore the natural world through activities, games, crafts, stories, interpretive programs, and animal visits. These kids get to stay at the zoo for the whole day! Camps are further divided into smaller age groupings to ensure that camp content is just the right level of challenge and campers get to make some new friends their own age. Note that camps for older kids run on select weeks and would be perfect for kids who are passionate about the environment and wildlife conservation, want to explore animal behaviour, or even eventually pursue a related career path in these fields.

Lemur Art Camps (ages 7 – 12) include the same fun-filled activities as other zoo camps, as well as some exciting, zoo-related art projects. Art activities are taught by an experienced camp leader and art enthusiast. Camps are divided into smaller age groups (ages 7 – 9 and 10 – 12) that run on select weeks.

The zoo knows that Calgary’s parents are a busy bunch, so before- and after-care is also available as early as 8 am, with a pickup by 5 pm (extra charges apply). Camp prices vary, but don’t forget that Engage and Inspire members will receive 10% off summer camp registration prices. You can also sign your kids up for a hot lunch on Wednesdays and Fridays for a special treat!

Explore the world with summer camps at the Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo, a one-of-a-kind setting where your kids can learn about everything from animal adaptations and animal tracks to zoo careers, veterinary science, and wildlife conservation. You can’t find these experiences anywhere else in Calgary!

You’ll find the complete range of Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo summer camps online, but know these camps are popular and sell out quickly.
