One of the greatest things about Calgary is our spectacular world-class zoo — located on an island smack-dab in the middle of the city! The Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo is a beautiful inner city oasis that plays home to over 4,000 animals from all over the world. Take a stroll through the vast Canadian Wilds section to visit the kinds of animals that we share our country with, or be transported to more exotic locales in the Destination Africa area or the Gorilla Rainforest exhibit. Don’t miss out on some of the zoo’s incredibly popular inhabitants, the amazingly cute penguins at Penguin Plunge!
With plenty of delicious eateries, a huge playground area, and the ENMAX Conservatory where you can take a time out and visit the butterflies when they’re in season, the Calgary Zoo is a great place to visit whether you’re drinking it all in for a single day or if you make a habit of it with an annual pass.
NEW IN 2026: Imagine Asia
On July 15, 2026, Imagine Asia opens! This immersive exhibit is a revitalization of the Asian Highlands exhibit at The Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo. From towering peaks to forested slopes, you can explore the fascinating animals that make their home in the Eastern Himalayas. Visit the majestic snow leopards and the adorable red pandas. Then you can meet the Zoo’s newest species, the Sichuan takin, described as a ‘goat-antelope.’ Step into the Asian Highlands and support animal conservation!
