There’s a new playground in town . . . and it won’t stay put! The City of Calgary has a mobile adventure playground that spends the summer travelling between city parks. The pilot program was so successful that over 2000 children visited the playgrounds over the summer. It has continued on and expanded into more playgrounds. The adventure playground rotates all summer through a variety of parks.

See the website for an exact schedule and keep in mind that it’s often updated.

What is an adventure playground? According to the City of Calgary, “Adventure playgrounds are dynamic spaces where children can explore, create, imagine and learn in their own way. They contain a variety of materials and loose parts such as boards, tires, tape and cardboard that children are free to use to build, demolish, assemble and change their environments as they desire.” That sounds pretty fantastic to us!

This is a free program. Whenever the playground is open, there will be on-site program staff to serve as play ambassadors. Please keep in mind that these staff will supervise but are not there to direct or facilitate play. Parents need to be present – this is not a drop-off program.

Check the playground’s schedule online. Please note that the playground schedule is weather-dependent and subjected to change.
