The Mythical Realms summer day camp is a select experience that takes place over only one week this summer at the Highland Park Community Centre. From August 28 – September 1, 2023, kids ages 9 – 15 years will have the opportunity to go on an extraordinary adventure. The camp will run from 1 – 4:30 pm and after-care will be available until 5:30 pm, for those who need it.
What to Expect
This camp will introduce participants to the roleplaying game structure and teach gaming etiquette. Campers will be grouped with their peers for age-appropriate fun. Kids will discover that roleplaying games are an art and the game masters will guide them through the process. They will be immersed in a rich storyline, where their choices and actions will shape the outcome.
The afternoon will include special activities related to character design and storytelling. Kids will have the chance to craft narratives, describe actions and scenes, and engage in character development. This encourages language skills and a love for storytelling.
While kids are thinking creatively, they will also be learning to think critically, building their problem-solving and leadership skills. They’ll analyze situations, find creative solutions to challenges, develop logical reasoning skills, and find the resiliency to adapt to the unexpected.
And one of the best parts? They’ll make new friends as they connect with like-minded peers! They’ll learn how to communicate, negotiate, and make decisions together and they’ll also develop empathy and understanding as they navigate different character perspectives and work towards common goals. The friendships forged on an adventure together are the most meaningful.
