The National Music Centre (NMC) is bringing you a summer jam-packed with musical delights! We all want to squeeze the best of life out of this summer and music is a joyful, interesting, engaging way to do that.

Do you have a child who is interested in playing, listening, and learning more about music? Encourage their passions by enrolling them in music-related summer activities with NMC. All camps are hosted online and are designed to give youth ages 8 – 15 a chance to create and learn together. They will play music, make new friends, and learn from the talented musician educators, all from the comfort of their homes. Expect a mix of virtual live learning guided by the educators and self-guided activities for campers to explore on their own. Virtual live learning will occur at two set times, with self-guided activities provided for the time between and for the afternoon. The camps focus on skill-building, creativity, and collaboration for an at-home musical experience they won’t forget.

Music From The Ground Up – Ages: 8 – 11

Perfect for beginner musicians and kids new to music, this camp is packed with activities that build musical skills from the ground up! Explore the building blocks of music like pitch, melody, and rhythm to learn more about how music is made. Dive into science, math, art, and music with engaging activities like creating your own beat and getting a taste of songwriting by writing your own lyrics to famous tunes. Each day, self-guided activities will be provided to dive deeper into the day’s topics.

Your Song – Ages: 12 – 15

If you’ve always wanted to be a songwriter then this camp is for you!

Learn how to create music at home, craft lyrics, and express yourself through song. The camp will take you through the process of writing your own song, from melody to instrumentation to lyrics, and give you a chance to collaborate with other campers. At the end of the week, you’ll have an original song of your own to share with family and friends. Self-guided activities will be provided to dive deeper into songwriting.

Basic musicality/musical knowledge is recommended. While having an instrument at home will be useful, online resources will be suggested to campers who don’t have access to an instrument.
