Warm up winter and nurture that spark of passion in your child or teen! Discovering something you love makes the darkest season brighter, so this winter, check out Pumphouse Theatre’s winter lessons. They have a new semester of drama education programs to bring your youngster’s imagination in from the cold!
Pumphouse Theatre was started in the early 1970s to provide Calgarians with an affordable place to enjoy creative arts. Beyond theatre productions, they also provide a drama education program, with vibrant classes introducing the drama basics, offering a host of skills for every child. It’s all about learning how to communicate and express yourself and developing confidence and poise. It’s imagination, self-discipline, and critical thinking skills. And at Pumphouse Theatre, it’s also about enjoying the arts, making new friends, and having loads of fun!
Letting your young artist express themselves and act out their imagination will add joy to their winter as they have a wonderful time with like-minded friends. Children ages 6 – 14 will have a chance to learn how to express themselves and find their moment to shine with this creative outlet. What program will your child choose?
Playful Drama: Ages 6 – 8
Saturdays, 10:30 – 11:30 AM; January 10 – March 21, 2026 (No class on February 14)
Class Fee: $125
With a great introduction to the drama basics, this course covers a variety of topics, including storytelling, character, sharing, movement, and theatre games. Your child will explore their imagination, learn new skills, and have fun! No experience is required.
Theatre Arts Exploration: Ages 8 – 11
Saturdays, 10 AM – 12 PM; January 10 – March 21, 2026 (No class on February 14)
Class Fee: $300
Looking for an all-inclusive exploration of the theatre arts? Students will be encouraged to discover various dramatic techniques such as character creation, improvisation, movement, scene study, and more in this course. Plus, they’ll have a blast creating and performing an original final presentation for friends and family. No previous experience is required!
Acting FUN-Dementals: Ages 8 – 11
Sundays, 10 AM – 12 PM; January 11 – March 22, 2026 (No class on February 15)
Class Fee: $300
It’s time to enjoy the fundamentals of acting and working with others! This course will help kids feel confident and comfortable on stage. The focus will be on scripted work, with lots of rehearsing and workshops. Then kids will perform in a final showcase! No previous experience is required.
Improvisation: Ages 11 – 14
Mondays, 6 – 8 PM; January 12 – March 23, 2026 (No class on February 16)
Class Fee: $300
Your youth will have fun and increase their creativity, confidence, teamwork, and adaptability in an Improv Class! From theatre sport to character development and storytelling to games, kids will be inspired to think outside the box and learn something new while having fun. No previous experience is required!
Registration opens November 5, 2025, for winter programs at Pumphouse Theatre. Enjoy an early bird discount of $25 if you register at least 30 days before the start of class. You’ll also receive a multi-child discount of $25 if you register more than one child from the same household.
